The Create your own 3D Models heading on the models page will point you to Art of Illusion and Blender.
There are lots of other tools out there too, commercial and free, make sure they will save in a supported format.
For a plain cabinet with shelves, you could use SH3D:
- Design your cabinet as if it was lying on the floor, rear side down.
- Use walls to create the sides and shelves. Wall thickness = material thickness, wall height = depth of furniture, etc. Add colours etc.
- Select 'model' and export selection as .obj format.
- Import the model turning it upright (and adjust size etc).
Or you could compile a simple structure using boxes and grouping them when finished.
