If you want to speed up image creation you can do any of the following:
- faster CPU (more cores, higher clock)
- fewer objects in the scene
- fewer light sources in the scene
- less detailed models (fewer polygons)
- fewer and smaller image textures, no transparency
- smaller image size (less pixels to be computed)
- desktop instead of notebook
- additional cooling

Many notebooks have cooling issues by design (little space, small fan). They tend to overheat with high CPU usage over an extended period of time. This results in either reduced CPU clock speed or even complete failure.
Put your notebook in the freezer when doing high-res renders wink

What makes you think that computing the image on a server would speed things up? Apart from not being able to run SH3D headless you also potentially share the server's resources with other users.
Unless you find a way to use a render farm (e.g. BURP) I would stick to your personal computer.
