Re: Raising a floor up I don't know why you don't want to use a second level. It has several advantages like being able to show/hide just the stage level and objects you place there are automatically on the level of the stage. Another advantage is that if you want to adjust the height of the stage you just have to adjust the height of the stage level and everything on it will go along with the changed height. The beauty is that you can create a stage level with a 3' elevation and a floor thickness of 3' and your floor is now the stage Without using an extra level do what Hans said: create a box the size of your stage and place it where you want.
