Transparent floor
Very good day, anybody can suggest how to create a glass (transparent) floor, or better a piece of that? Thanks a lot for the help. Stelvio

Re: Transparent floor
Here's my suggestion:
- Create a new home
- Choose Plan > Add level menu item
- Select room creation tool and draw the shape you want
- Choose 3D view > Modify 3D view menu item and select the transparency level you want with Walls transparency slider
- Choose 3D view > Export to OBJ format and confirm the option Export selection when prompted
- Import in your main home the exported OBJ file with Furniture > Import furniture menu item

Re: Transparent floor
Hi, thanks for the hint, yes this solution works; there is any additional possibility just to assign to the floor the glass material similarly to the windows object? Thanks

Re: Transparent floor
If there was a simpler solution, I would have cited it first wink

Re: Transparent floor

I now use it for tinted windows!!

black wall ->> opacity adjustment ->> export to obj

Re: Transparent floor
Excelent! Worked perfectly and saved me an hours trying to get it to work in blender.

Who said you can't do it.
I don't listen to Who anymore.

Re: Transparent floor
Personally I find it easier to edit the exported object and add a d value (transparency) to the material I want to be transparent. In most cases you only want one part to have transparency and with the manual edit that's just as easy.

This is explained here and here .

Re: Transparent floor
Maybe even simpler solution: Create a transparent png and use it as an imported texture in Modify 3D View / Ground.

Simpler? For me setting the d parameter is just as simple.
With a texture image you are stuck with that image. Using the d property in the mtl file leaves you the option to change colors for semi-transparent objects like tinted windows.
Besides that, a texture increases the imported object size with the size of the texture. It also increases the rendering time for a photo.

For simple window glass (a pane WxHxD 100x100x0.5)
Glass.obj:
mtllib Glass.mtl
g glass_1
usemtl Glass

You can import the glass object and resize it to any format you need.

A nice trick: import the glass as a staircase and you can can insert a partial glass floor. Rotate the pane horizontal and make the depth the same as the floor thickness. Elevate the glass in the room below to the wall height. Done, a nice glass 'hole' in the floor.
