Weird 3D ArtifactsHello dear Sweet Home 3D Forum members, i've been working with version 6.6 for a couple months now and recently upgraded to 7.0. Everything was working fine until today, the Planning view and the 3D view both only show artifacts for the 3D objects. 3D View: https://imgur.com/Ui6Btum Planner View: https://imgur.com/A5r7sMT I tried reverting to 6.6, same issue. I created a new plan, and used an old version, both still have the same artifacts. Also reinstalled the Graphics Card drivers, no change. Does anyone have an idea? I can install an older Graphics Card driver if that might be the issue, using an AMD Vega. |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Yes, I saw those before too. This is not the same however, if you look at the 3D View, it is totally broken. And even with a new project, by default the ground is dark-grey. If i place any object, it becomes a giant black cluster :D |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Just happened to me too. I had no issues the other day and made no driver or windows update since (did install a new firewall). Only installed a few sweethome3d plugins the last time, but all worked just fine then. The 3d view window is grey now when opening the program, with no model. Then loading a model gives those artifacts above, in both the 3d view and planview (objects are all black). And everything is a mess. Tried reinstalling and got the same issues. Re: Weird 3D Artifacts I can confirm this issue: There are strange black lines in the 3d preview, that seem to be centered around some kind of object outside of the house model. When moving the 3dview, the black lines randomly are disappearing and reappearing, (seems to be bound to the displays refresh rate?), creating kind of like a flicker-effect. I am on a Radeon RX5600XT, the problem appears with Adrenalin 22.10 and also 22.9. Downgrading to 22.5 indeed solved the problem for me! I will try to report to AMD too. |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Same issue here and on Radeon RX5700XT. However, I don't think this issue is necessarily with AMD. If you create a new plan from scratch it works ok with the new version of the drivers. However bringing over a file created with the previous drivers causes the artifacts. Can anyone replicate? |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Cannot confirm your findings with newest drivers and new plan. When I try to drag an asset from the left panel to the center one, it gets displayed greyish and the 3D view is showing artifacts :/ |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Thanks for trying. Yes, it turns out when designing the walls from scratch there are no artifacts initially. Then when adding a garage door the artifacts appear. So it seems some elements are ok, and others aren't. Weird. |

The problem is not Sweethome3D but the AMD driver. Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Even if I don't have a computer to reproduce this bug, I reported it to ADM myself in the hope I could at least get some information about its correction. They asked to check if Sweet Home 3D is still failing with Adrenaline driver 22.11.2. So, if someone could try it and report how it works, they might try to fix their bug. Re: Weird 3D Artifacts I wonder if there is anything we can do to speed this up :) As far as I can tell Sweet Home 3D is using the JOGL interface to OpenGL. Is there something like a debug mode via executable parameter or logs which might point to a specific error? Just thinking it would be sweet to provide AMD additional information besides screenshots of artifacts. |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Thanks to cyphorage for your test and to quallemalle for willing to help further. When I reported this bug to AMD, they asked me to provide dxdiag (in .txt) & msinfo32 (in .NFO) reports from the system which will capture the entire system configuration and drivers installed. If you could do that and send it me (or them), this could help because I don’t own a PC where I can reproduce this issue. About debugging JOGL, you could run the program by setting the jogl.debug.DebugGL system property, for example by adding the line: -Djogl.debug.DebugGL---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Ok so here are my findings: - created the .ini file and put debug parameter in it. Unfortunately this caused the software not to run anymore. Just the splash screen appeared and stayed visible. Had to cancel the Zulu Platform process via task manager. - removed the .ini file and ran the program with logging to stderr (2>err.txt). Software booted and ran fine, but the err file provided the following: " WARNING: An illegal reflective access operation has occurred WARNING: Illegal reflective access by javax.media.j3d.JoglPipeline (file:/D:/Programme/Sweet%20Home%203D/lib/java3d-1.6/j3dcore.jar) to method sun.awt.AppContext.getAppContext() WARNING: Please consider reporting this to the maintainers of javax.media.j3d.JoglPipeline WARNING: Use --illegal-access=warn to enable warnings of further illegal reflective access operations WARNING: All illegal access operations will be denied in a future release " - trace logs (1>trace.log) were empty - Also tried to play around with /runtime/conf/logging.properties and adding the debug parameter there but that did nothing :) Would love to get some more debug info, any idea what went wrong? |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Thanks quallemalle for the dxdiag (in .txt) & msinfo32 (in .NFO) reports you sent me. I sent them to AMD. Sorry for the wrong information about debugging JOGL, I should have tried myself first and would have seen that it doesn't work (it probably requires some modifications in Sweet Home 3D). To all, AMD told me that they couldn't find any bug report about Sweet Home 3D that many of you sent!? Please be sure to use the form available at https://www.amd.com/en/support/contact-email-form so they can directly communicate with you and get the information that will help them. If you want a message to fill this form faster, you could write something like: Hi, As the form allows to attach some files, you could also send some screenshots showing the differences between a normal and buggy 3D view. Thanks!I'm xxxx, a user of Sweet Home 3D, a free open source application developed in Java / OpenGL and available at https://www.sweethome3d.com/download.jsp Since version > 22.5.1, AMD Adrenaline drivers provoke some display bugs in Sweet Home 3D where the OpenGL 3D view doesn't appear correctly anymore (see links at the end of this message). As reinstalling driver version 22.5.1 makes the program 3D view work correctly again, I guess a regression appeared in the more recent versions of AMD Adrenaline drivers. I hope you can fix it soon to avoid me to keep an old driver version installed in my system. Don't hesitate to ask me more details if needed. Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Reinstalled AMD 22.5.1 and problem solved. Also seems to have improved other aspects of the display, generally. The latest version was having "jitters" and "microscopic blackouts". Normally I always disable automatic updates for most softwares. But this time I reinstalled my PC and downloaded the latest version. |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Also AMD's installer specifically allows for "downgrade" installation. No need to manually uninstall the previous version. On AMD's driver download page, two versions are provided, without suggestions that the user should install the latest one. It's as if they know that the latest version is going to have issues. They are just putting it out there for mass public beta testing. |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Ok so I went full circle with first level tech support of AMD via mail. I sent them dxdiag and msinfo32 files as well as followed a lot of troubleshooting steps like updating chipset drivers, cleaning gpu driver via cleaning tool, ... There is no known issue with OpenGL that they know of they told me. Best suggestion was to use the 22.5.1 driver and wait for future driver releases to fix the issue. They also told me to file a bug report via Adrenalin Software, which I already did weeks ago. I would suggest you all do the same since first level is not going to get us anywhere. Re: Weird 3D Artifacts I also have this problem with the latest Adrenalin 23.1.1 drivers. I have a 7900 XTX and unfortunately I cannot revert to the older, working, drivers as they do not support my hardware. So I am stuck. I should note that I also see corrupt and missing textures in the 2D view as well. I have successfully got the jnlp and ini file DirectX workarounds to work with the 32 bit version but unfortunately, I cannot render with Yafaray as I get a red cross after a few seconds of loading. It seems only the 64bit version will render my room. I have tried adding -Xmx768m or -Xmx1024m to the ini file but it makes no difference; I still get the red cross with Yafaray. If I increase that number above 1024 then Sweet Home 3D won't load or crashes. I do not have any trees in my project. |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts For reference of anyone else here with an AMD Radeon 7900 XTX, I've just installed the Adrenalin 23.1.2 drivers that were released yesterday and they have the same problem with the 3D view. If I uninstall them using the AMD driver cleanup tool, and switch back to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, then the 3D view in SW3D v7 looks correct again. I should note that it's not just the 3D view that is broken. All of the textures in the 2D view are also either completely missing or wrong. I haven't heard anything else from AMD Tech Support after they asked me to do further testing. |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Emmanuel, I assume it's not possible to change the renderer from OpenGL? Or use some different OpenGL .dll file in SH3D? It looks like AMD rewrote, or massively enhanced, their OpenGL support in the Adrenalin 22.7.1 driver: https://www.geeks3d.com/20220804/amd-radeon-a...-1-opengl-changes-tested/ Is anyone using 22.6.1 and do you have a working 3D View in SH3D? |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Would you be able to find the version of the driver of your graphics card? Hi, before I get the Nvidia 3060, I had tried with 3 different drivers, that I found at the AMD Website, but all of them have been from 2022. As I needed a fast solution (just working on a huge project) and as I wanted also a more up-to-date graphic card for Adobe software, this 333.- Euro for the 3060 have been a good investment ;-) ...But NOW I also WANT a new and faster Intel i7, as THIS is the "bottleneck" while rendering - and unfortunately this will be much more that a few hundret Euro ;-) t.b.c. ;-) |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts >> Emmanuel, I assume it's not possible to change the renderer from OpenGL? Or use some different OpenGL .dll file in SH3D? Just to clarify, I meant... "...can we change from one OpenGL renderer to a different OpenGL renderer?" Or are there any other options we can tweak in the SH3D config files to improve or change the existing OpenGL renderer in SH3D? I have already tried the DirectX driver and that fixes the issue but requires that I run the 32 bit version of SH3D and that means I cannot render using the faster photorealistic raytracer. |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Hi, Same issue for me (with AMD RX580) since installation of Adrenalin 22.8.1 (I tried many versions including the last 22.11.2 with the same result). Going back to 22.5.1 is correcting the problem, but this Adrenalin version is really outdated, probably no more supported by AMD, and reported as obsolete by some other applications which may refuse to start (so it's not a workaround for me). I've sent 2 bug reports to AMD months ago with screen captures and many details on the bug, so when I read that "they couldn't find any bug report about Sweet Home 3D"... AMD is just lying (or the bug report tool is not working). Some details about the bug : - The 'weird artifacts' (lines and triangles) in the 3D view seem to have the same origin : the origin point coord (0,0) - In the 3D view, the walls are correctly displayed but not the other objects (doors, windows...). Also, the background is black, no more light gray - In the 2D view, objects are no more displayed and are replaced by a strange texture. I did some research on the web, but haven't see any other issue like this one with AMD, OpenGL and J3D... Really strange. @Puybaret : if I find something, I'll tell you |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Hi, Let’s try first to find the simplest way to reproduce this bug: Does it happen when you draw one wall or one room? Does it happen when you add one piece of furniture? For the three previous cases, does it change something if you use textures? Thanks for your help. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Ok, so here is what I tried : - New project (empty) : ok - 1 wall : ok - adding some walls : ok - 1 room : ok - Adding a door or window : this create a hole in the wall and the artifacts appear. - Removing the door : artifacts are gone - Starting a new project (empty) and adding a just one 3D object (a table) : artifacts appear (the table is not displayed in 3D view) - Starting a new project (empty), adding a wall : ok - Applying a texture to the wall : ok - adding a 3D object (a ball) near the wall : the object is not diplayed, the artifacts appear / No change to the wall (correctly displayed, with the texture) Seems to be realted to 3D objects. Also, in the 2D view, some objects are correctly displayed (the basket ball), but some others (babyfoot table) are replaced by geometric shapes Hope this will help ![]() |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Thanks, this could help because 3D models and polylines are not handled as walls, rooms, ground. Could you check whether it bugs as soon as you show a polyline in the 3D view too? At the opposite, can you tell me that it works correctly no matter how many walls or rooms you add to the plan? Thanks again. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Creating a polyline is working fine : it appears correctly in 3D view, without any artifact. I just created a plan with 5 rooms (17 walls) -> no artifact But... I've added another room, still ok, and then another one : artifacts appeared on the ground. It's different from the other artifacts which are going in all 3D directions (x,y,z) : these ones are only on (x,y) plan. Moving the room (the floor, without the walls) outside of the 'house' will make the artifacts disappear... I can send you some screenshots if needed. |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Could some of you try the version 7.0.2e [link removed] ? It creates furniture 3D models using parameters similar to the ones used for walls and rooms, and maybe it could fix the issue in recent Adrenaline driver versions. Thanks! Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Thanks for those links. I found it interesting that for Blender users they could "fix" the problem by changing MSAA settings. I tried the settings listed here (which appear to be the default settings anyway), and tried "resetting" the settings, but it made no difference at all. https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender/issues/100096#issuecomment-113152 I've also tried various different combinations of all the settings in the antialiasing area of the driver config, and I've added a custom profile just for SH3D. No luck the graphics are still broken. |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts Hello dear Sweet Home 3D users. I started using the app 2 months ago, and I loved it so far. After learning the basics, I started designing our possible new house, but my previous PC configuration was pretty poor for 3D viewing and rendering. So, last week I upgraded my PC to an AMD Radeon 6600XT/Ryzen 5700X configuration and also added 32 Gbyte Ram. Now I'm just really sorry that I didn't run into this thread earlier. I had the same problem as many others here. With the new AMD Adrenalin drivers, neither the 2d nor 3d view works properly. The final render runs fine though. Perceived problems and renderings are available in the link bellow: https://imgur.com/a/pNTVVVr Work in progress renderings Unfortunately, I can't switch back to previous working driver versions, as there are other applications that won't run with outdated drivers, and running 32 bit applications is not an option, as I had to switch to 64 bit in December because low memory problems with the actual project size. I have read that Emmanuel Puybaret does not have the right configuration for testing and several people here have also hit a wall with AMD support, so the solution to the problem and the timeframe is completely uncertain. At the moment I'm completely stuck and can't move forward with my project. If the situation persists for months, I would be forced to find an alternative program or replace the 6600XT with an Nvidia RTX 3600, which I really don't want to do. I'm wondering if some kind of crowd funding could be a solution. i.e.: could we pool the money for Emmanuel to buy let say a used 6500 XT card, which is around 130-150 Euro second hand, so he could test the cause of the problem and possibly find a solution? If there are 15 of us and we only put in 10 Euros each, we would transfer the money to Emmanuel to buy a card second hand. I hope, we will see a quick solution. All the best, MH |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts @HelonMead, it's a very nice proposal but I don't even have any PC box to welcome such a graphics card! My only PC is a Microsoft Surface and my main computer is an iMac. And reading the links posted by aminor00 and LR9215 doesn't give me that much hope that it's an easy fix. Anyway, if I could try it myself, it would be nice. Would anyone here be ok to let me run some tests on their own PC with TeamViewer? I don't think I need admin rights and a new blank user account would be probably enough. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: Weird 3D Artifacts I have just installed the very latest AMD Adrenalin 23.2.1 drivers which now support the older Radeon cards, and the new 7900 series. Unfortunately, these drivers do not fix the problem. The change notes for this driver make no mention of any changes to OpenGL so it is not a surprise that they do not fix the problem with SH3D :-( |

Re: Objets étranges en 3DWhat a great news! I quickly downloaded and tested the new version. All previous bugs and glitches are gone and SH3D is working again with the latest 23.2.1 AMD driver. https://imgur.com/a/VxbKxRU The only thing I noticed is that when I move around in the 3D section, random full screen stutters appear every few seconds, but as I'm a new Radeon GPU owner, I have no basis for comparison. In any case, this doesn't effect usability. Thanks a lot for the quick troubleshooting. HM |

Re: Objets étranges en 3D Hello, As already said to Emmanuel, this new version is working fine for me too, with both Adrenalin 22.11.2 and 23.2.1. Re: Objets étranges en 3D Thanks Emmanuel! 7.0.2i also works for me with my own files and the demos. I did notice some small "stutters" and strange white shadowing effect in the 3D View but I discovered I had left the "Overdrive" setting on "Extreme" on my gaming monitor. When I switched Overdrive back to "Normal" the shadowing went away, and the stutters seem to be much less. 3D view now doesn't seem much different from when I had a 1080Ti. HelonMead have you got a monitor with that feature? Can you set overdrive to "Normal" or "Off"? Otherwise I suggest you try uninstalling the AMD Adrenalin drivers using the AMD Clean Up Utility (https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601) then re-install the drivers. Does that help remove the stutters? |

Re: Objets étranges en 3D After some more tests, I discovered that the modifications I made to Java 3D 1.5.2 library to circumvent the bug in ADM driver didn't fix the issue. But I won't go further to make it work with this library for the following reasons: - the program change requires to change a DLL for which source code isn't available as far as I know, or to add an old version of JOGL compatible with Java 3D 1.5.2 which would require further testing - Java 3D 1.5.2 is mainly used by Sweet Home 3D 32 bit where the AMD bug can be avoided by adding the SweetHome3D.l4j.ini to Sweet Home 3D installation folder, or by running Sweet Home 3D installer from the command line with the additional parameters /os.arch=x86 /j3d.version=1.6.2 - I communicated to AMD the origin of the issue which comes from a buggy implementation of glMultTransposeMatrix function. They answered that they will fix this bug in the next release of Adrenalin. If you didn't follow me, just keep in mind that the fix in Java 3D 1.6.2a library works, and this will avoid to wait for Adrenalin update. Java 3D 1.6.2a library is installed with the version 7.0.2i and the coming version 7.1 for Sweet Home 3D 64 bit. For Sweet Home 3D 32 bit, use the SweetHome3D.l4j.ini file or the installer additional parameters cited above, or just wait for next release of Adrenalin. Half of their users are experimenting this problem because de render 3d doesn't work with the new graphic cards tecnologies and software. It *is* a driver problem and has been acknowledged as a bug by AMD who will issue a fix in due course (it is not yet fixed in latest Adrenaline 23.3.1). However Puybaret, who is the Sweet Home 3D Developer, has found a workaround and has implemented the workaround in the code that was released in Sweet Home 3D 7.1. |
