Sloping roof across all sides of the house
Hello.. In the past one month I have learnt a lot on home building and I have successfully built one. However, over the weekend I tried to put a sloping roof to my house but I was unable to do so. I am posting a picture of the sloping roof how I want it and request members of this forum if anyone can help me with it.

Here is a google drive link to my house with the below two roof tile patterns

Here is the style which I am looking at

Please help

Thank you

Re: Sloping roof across all sides of the house
You will either have to find an object representing a roof tile or try to create it your self. You might have to settle for a roof tile that just resembles the displayed tile.
When you have the tile, tilt it to the correct angle and start copy-pasting lost of tiles in rows with different elevations. Just create a row, group it, copy the row, increase it's elevation, and position against the previous row.

Sometimes manufacturers have object files for their products you can download but it's a slim chance.

You can also cheat by creating a texture from the photo and apply that texture to a shape you create.

It's easy to create the border at the bottom of the roof with resized boxes.

Hi Kawal,

Made something in Blender, hoop this helps!

Wow, that looks really good. Exactly what kawal needs to create his roof!

It is indeed very beautiful... exactly how I wanted it. However, I am still struggling to put it in place especially the corners. Thank you so very much for the model.

You can also cheat by creating a texture from the photo and apply that texture to a shape you create.

I tried the cheat you suggested but being a newbie, its becoming a little tough for me. Tilt and elevation in a sloping angle is where I am struggling. Unable to figure out how to have proper corners as marked in the image below.

May I ask some further help? I have linked google drive link of my sh3d file in the first post.

Thank you.

Shape coordinates for the corner

I'm sure Kevin can create a much better corner with Blender like he did with the roof tile but it's a weird shape so this is what I could do with the Sweethome3D Create Shape tool.

omg! lots of groupings... i need to understand your solution properly before I make it for the whole house. Thank you very much for the push ... i was also trying another way of getting this done by creating a shape... like how you suggested earlier. Will try both.

I'm sure Kevin can create a much better corner with Blender like he did with the roof tile but it's a weird shape so this is what I could do with the Sweethome3D Create Shape tool.

what you made is close to the actual shape... wondering what is the mathematics behind calculating the coordinates. If Kevin can make one, it would be better.

Thanks both of you for helping me.

Hi,

If I had so dimensions indications I could make something in Blender, for me it seems to be a U-form piece, kind of tube cut in halve, right?

In my last post I provided links with what I made. That includes a .sh3d file with the object of the corner. It's a shape created with the Shape tool, copied, the copy mirrored and rotated, and then the two parts attached to each other. So it's a weird shaped corner.

There's also a screenshot with the dimensions I used for the corner object. Maybe import the shape objects from the .sh3d file in Blender and go from there. A little thinner with smoother edges.

Hi,

Ok, done, I made it big enough you could resize it if needed, also added Blender file in case you want to reshape it, Blender it's free and very easy to use to modify shapes.

Re: Sloping roof across all sides of the house
Thank you Kelvin, Thank you Keet for all you help. I dont know how to use blender but a big Thank you for both the 3d models which will help me design a realistic looking roof. I also figured out an alternate way/cheat as per suggestion from Keet. I will share that too shortly. Cheers !

This is the one how I tried.

Created a wall in three parts and copied it as furniture and managed somehow but goofed up a bit on the corner angles and texture. Its not perfect, I just wanted to share what I did. Finally I am going to make it how Keet suggested with Kelvin's tile and corner model.

Thanks guys.

It's not exactly what you want but that is what I can do until now.

Looks good to me.. just wanted to zoom in to the corners of the elevated front side and back side of the house. Would you mind sharing the project file please?
Thanks

Re: Sloping roof across all sides of the house
Take it

If you want a perfect 3D view and you don't care about the size of the file, you have to make it like in real life: combined piece by piece.
You will see you will have to accept some compromises.
The perfection exist only you make it.
SH3D is good to show to constructors what you want in final, not to teach them how to do.
For colors and nuances I recommend to listen your wife.
It's good for your health.

Yes. absolutely !
It looks like you made the entire roof and exported as an object file by the name Roof and imported it in my project file. The groups beneath the imported object is something I need to figure out. I will have to spend some time on it to understand the logic on how you made it. Thank you very much for sharing.
