sad   kitchen furniture
is it possible to change existing furniture? I do not mean visible or color or structure but let say on an existing kitchen cabinet change the
cabinet handle by an other model?http://www.sweethome3d.com/support/mvnplugin/mvnforum/images/emotion/sad.gif

Re: kitchen furniture
Short answer: no.

Long answer: Not without effort. If the cabinet is divided up by materials, you could make the existing handle invisible using modify materials and import a separate handle, manually position it and then group the two objects together.

Alternatively you would export your cabinet and use a modelling tool (like Blender) to edit the object there to change the handle, then re-import back into SH3D.

In theory you could create (in an external program) a cabinet with multiple handles all using different materials, and set all but one of them to invisible. Then the user could have a choice of handle. Note that this would balloon the file size though. I don't know for sure if this would actually be possible.

This is actually one of the items I have on my wish list: Allowing a selection list for a material where you assign one as the default or have it initially be invisible. So currently that is not possible.
Your tip to to replace the handle with a different one is a good one though, which I often used myself until I started to create all my furniture from scratch. This is possible because invisible parts are not exported by Sweet Home 3D.
1. Make the handle invisible and export the cabinet.
2. Use the same method to to get a handle from another cabinet: make everything invisible except the handle and export. (Or download a handle from a 3D models site.)
3. Import the cabinet without handle and the handle.
4. Combine the two objects and export them.
5. After import you have the new cabinet with the replaced handle.

Re: kitchen furniture
This, or something very similar has been done in the past.

I remember a model of a couch: one model, two versions: standard couch, and pull-out sleeper couch. In Materials you could choose which version to display.

Re: kitchen furniture
That was the sofabed in this thread: https://www.sweethome3d.com/support/forum/viewthread_thread,6333 but the trick used was two models placed at the same location where one or the other was made invisible as needed.

Edit: It can be done with a single model by creating a bed over the sofa. Once imported you will have to make all bed parts invisible to go from bed to sofa.

Re: kitchen furniture
thank you all for the hints
I succeeded in doeing what i wanted by creating a new handle in an empty sweethome 3d file, selecting it all and exporting it as an new .obj file
and than importing it as furniture and than combining it with an existing cabinet
