Padding from objects Is it possible to create an invisible space between 2 objects? Perhaps a padding of 1 centimeter to always leave an equally spaced gap when they are joined? |

Re: Padding from objects Yes: create a box with the needed size. Make all sides invisible except the top. Export it and edit the MTL file so the single block of material "top" gets a last line with "d 0.0". This makes the box invisible. Import and you can use this object as an invisible space. Only the gap width needs to be precise. The object is invisible anyway so as long as it doesn't stick outside your other objects it's good. Edit to complete: While you're editing the MTL file change "newmtl top" to "newmtl invisible" and in the OBJ file change "usemtl top" to "usemtl invisible". When you import the object its material name will be "invisible". This makes it easier to recognize it when you combine it in an export with other objects. Edit 2 for all users: The invisible box is useful for something else. Imagine you created several pieces of furniture that can be stacked BUT they don't all have the same size (bounding box). That makes aligning them while you stack them difficult. By adding invisible boxes to the smaller parts you can make sure that the bounding boxes are all the same size so your parts can be easily aligned. ---------------------------------------- Dodecagon.nl 1300+ 3D models, manuals, and projects |

Re: Padding from objects For this kind of tasks I usually use the already old implemented tool "Align or distribute furniture" which have 9 aligning types and 2 distribution (horizontal and vertical).
