Wishlist: IFC as Project file
It would be nice If I could Import, modify and save an IFC File.

It seems FreeCAD with Version 1 now does support Native IFC. It would be cool to have Sweet Home for staging an IFC file.

Use FreeCAD to export to .OBJ or .DAE which you can import in Sweet Home 3D.

For the record. As far, It is not possible to import an .obj or a .dae as Building . It could only been imported as Furniture. I tested it again. May I misunderstood something?

Any 3D model format, including OBJ and DAE, represents a single 3D model. Usually a 3D model is a piece of furniture or object. It can represent a complete building but it will be a single object. Only the Sweet Home 3D .sh3d format represents a building where you can manipulate the parts as they are defined, i.e. walls, rooms, furniture, etc. So yes, you can import a complete building but it will be like it is furniture where you can change the colors/textures of the materials but not change the dimensions of the individual parts in the model.
To some extend you can split the parts but you will not get walls or rooms as defined in Sweet Home 3D, only as pieces of furniture.

Re: Wishlist: IFC as Project file
If I import a Building into sh3d it would not be a problem that I could not modify the walls. That would be an extra feature. The Problem is more that the drawing is not working. As far, if I import a building, I'm not able to select a surface and say it is the ground for floor 1 or floor 2.

It's a model, just like for example a chair or cabinet only now it represents a building. You can do not more or less with that model as you can do with a model of a chair or cabinet. Don't expect any more from a model. Sweet Home 3D is a house and interior design spplication, not a 3D modelling program. If you want to modify something in the model itself you need something like Blender or another 3D modelling application. Generally it's rather useless to import a complete building.

No I do not assume that a IFC Building could be modified inside sh3d. But I assume to see at least the plan above. And be able to select the ground and place furniture.
A big plus would be I f I could save the IFC with the interior design I did add with sh3d.

Re: Wishlist: IFC as Project file
If you want to work with IFC, use Blender and the Bonsai addon. It adds native IFC to Blender. I've moved away from SH3D because for my purposes Bonsai works better for me. The only caveat is that it is still a work-in-progress, so it can be tough to get to grips with.
Trying to add IFC to SH3D would be like mixing oil and water - they do things in very different ways.

Re: Wishlist: IFC as Project file
Sorry sjb007, but IFC and SH3D data organization are quite similar from tests made in the past: both include notions of levels, walls, windows, objects,...
It's just there would be a lot of work to program IFC support in Sweet Home 3D.
