Advanced render problem
Hi All
I have a problem with the advanced render plug in v1.6.
I am trying to build a kitchen.
When i Import 3d models (mainly from Sketchup) the cabinet models look ok in 3d view and low quality render but when I choose Tools Create advanced photo, the photo will not render correctly. The image is created but some areas of textured objects (ie wooden cabinets) and handles are incorrect. Basically when there is a metal handle it comes out wooden coloured. This changes every time i re-render- ie pressing create sometimes renders some cabinets ok and others wrong. This changes every time but I never get them all correct. Am I doing something wrong?
Lower quality renders seem ok?
Thanks

Crafty,

Maybe you want to share your file, so we can have a look at it?

Re: Advanced render problem
Sure here the link - its just a basic room at the moment to try and get around the problem. The 2 types of cabinet look ok until rendered on best setting with advanced render 1.6 (on my pc anyway)

Heres the file

Re: Advanced render problem
I fully suspect I am maybe either exporting the models with incorrect settings in Sketchup OR using the wrong settings in SH3D.
Thanks very much for taking a look Hans

Re: Advanced render problem
Crafty,

Both models rendered correctly in v2.6 and v3.0, except the left-most door of the right cabinet: its centre panel stays grayish.

The problem clearly lies with your model(s). At 2.3 Mb your file is FAR too big for two simple cabinets. When I applied a texture of my own (that never causes problems), I noticed that the surface of the right cabinet is divided into postage stamp-sized squares.

I saw it's a DAE model, and these are known to cause problems every now and then. Try the same design with cabinets from the standard SH3D library. If you want to keep the texture, you can easily extract it from the SH3D file.

Re: Advanced render problem
Hi Hans
I have tried the same model with standard cabinets from the sh3d library and everything works fine - its just the dae models I suppose.
Is it possible to change the texture of just the cabinet doors from the sh3d model ie not the whole colour/texture, just the doors. I treid to change colour/texture but it changes the whole object, handles included.
Thanks

Re: Advanced render problem
Crafty,

Yes, that's possible in several ways.
1 - Use Blender, Sketchup, or another 3D program
2 - use a text editor and change the OBJ and MTL file directly

A trick I often have used is, to make a new, slightly larger handle and position it very precisely, so that it covers the old handle.

Re: Advanced render problem
The only way now is to export your door ou other fourniture using a plugin and edit the file 'mtl' to change the texture in question.

Re: Advanced render problem
Crafty... When you use Sketch, make sure you try to texture both sides of the model. If you select an area of your model, right click, and select reverse face to apply the same texture to both sides of the face. DAE models are always 2 sided, and this can cause problems with SH3D. I hope this helps. smile

Re: Advanced render problem
For export file Collada (dae) Sketchup:

1 - in options, disable export faces both sides.
2 - Enable triangulate the faces (heavier, but avoids the problem of mesh). Enable export veneer textures; normal!

3 - before export, pass the display model in monochrome.
4 - The visible faces must be white. The faces gray that are invisible , and will not be exported. It is therefore necessary to reverse the gray faces visible that are on the faces of the model. (There are several plugins that do that very well).

This method works well for importing into SH3D.

Sketchup modeling has brought to all.

Re: Advanced render problem
Sorry, but Sweet Home 3D support both sides parameter in DAE files.

Re: Advanced render problem
Hi Guys
Been working on this nearly all night and learnt how to edit the models in sketchup. And you were right - It was a double sided problem. Reversing the faces revealed they were not textured so I textured both sides of all pieces and - problem solved. Many many thanks for all the help (so far - cant proomise there wont be more questions!!!!)
Cheers

Re: Advanced render problem
For the methods I have given above, I think, it's the most appropriate methods for exported models. Of course that support SH3D Both Sides parameter in DAE files.

But to understand why this method is the normal method for sketchup, I invite you to visit this link which explains the inversion problem of faces in SketchUp. (In my language Fr, sorry)

http://www.arch-image.com/wordpress/2010/08/2...facefront-et-reverseface/

Personally, at the beginning of the Beta, I realized the problem faced when rendering in Sunflow; I then solved the problem by texturing the two sides. I just wanted to understand or was the problem. Especially since the two sides texture made me lose time. Actualy, so I put the faces in the right order, and I chose to export only the visible sides to win on the file size. This gain allows me to select triangulated faces to assurate no problem when importing to SH3D.
