SH3D crash after run, on ubuntu 10.10Hello. I installed the SH3D from the official repository of ubuntu. The program runs fine. But if I open a file the program crashes. The same thing happens if I download and install SH3D from the official site. I give the listing of the error message and log. I haven't any idea about this problem. Please help me. Thanks. |

Re: SH3D crash after run, on ubuntu 10.10 Anton, I have used SH3D under Ubuntu 10.04, 10.10. Currently I am using Ubuntu 11.04 with Open JDK / IcedTea Java installed, and it works flawlessly. Your problem is probably caused by the video card in your computer. Check that you have the latest drivers installed. Read the FAQ and try the solutions offered there. Hopefully this will solve your problem. Hans ---------------------------------------- Hans new website - under constuction hansdirkse.info |

Re: SH3D crash after run, on ubuntu 10.10 All right. I read the FAQ it yesterday. And now I have installed proprietary drivers fglrx 2:8.801-0ubuntu1~xup~maverick for my video card with a tool "Additional Drivers". But the program still does not work. Must I to install drivers from the AMD site? |

Re: SH3D crash after run, on ubuntu 10.10I just found out something about debian. It may help with Ubuntu also. I was having similar problem of sh3d starting, then wrong GLX version error message when loading a file, or starting for 1/2 second then stopping. The package called libgl1-mesa-glx has GLX version 1.2 and goeas along with libgl1-mesa-dri. If you install libgl1-mesa-swx11 and libgl1-mesa-swx11-i686 the above ones are removed and you get GLX version 1.4. GLX version 1.4 seems to work fine with java 3D. |

Re: SH3D crash after run, on ubuntu 10.10 John, I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 - 64 bits. After reading your message, I decided to check which GLX version I have installed. It seems that I have a different version installed than the one you suggest. Nevertheless, SH3D runs without any problem on my computer. Re: SH3D crash after run, on ubuntu 10.10 This all can only mean that running SH3D is only slightly dependent from the installed video card drivers. Hansmex has free drivers, I installed the proprietary driver. But SH3D have not worked on any drivers. So the problem lies elsewhere. Perhaps in the Java environment, or in the SH3D. :) |

Re: SH3D crash after run, on ubuntu 10.10 Anton, I'm not sure that is the correct conclusion... For correct 3D calculation and display, SH3D depends heavily on the video card, AND on its correct installation. Earlier versions of Ubuntu installed on the same computer I am using today, made it impossible to use SH3D, due to a video driver that was less than perfect. With the update of the video driver, all problems were solved from one day to the next. Hans ---------------------------------------- Hans new website - under constuction hansdirkse.info |

Re: SH3D crash after run, on ubuntu 10.10 The driver version has to be right for the xwindows version also. Anton, be sure you have a good xwindows installation. If your ubuntu repositories are set to 10.10 try reinstalling xwindows. You mentioned fglrx and AMD. I think fglrx is for Intel. Whatever the case, find out the exact drivers your video card requires, install those from ubuntu 10.10, and uninstall any others, and reinstall xwindows. I have a nvidia card, but like to use twin screens, so I use the nouveau driver for nvidia, even though it doesn't do 3D acceleration. The java 3D still works and plenty fast for CAD designing. JG |

Re: SH3D crash after run, on ubuntu 10.10 Hi all, problem seems to be similar to http://www.sweethome3d.com/support/forum/viewthread_thread,2236 The problem is the proprietary driver (i assume you have a ATI/AMD/Radeon graphic card). As far as i know even the free driver which comes with Ubuntu supports basic 3D support. best regards Frank |
