gray "block" when I drop in items ..... Hello, I am having a funny problem. Let me give two examples: 1) I draw a roof and export it as an OBJ file. I bring it in and place it on the house. In the 3D view the roof looks great but I see a gray block at the end. It is the size of the end view of the roof. I can not see through this block. 2) I draw a triangle window. Again, I export it as an OBJ file. I import it ( as furniture ) and place it into a wall. Although I see the window as a triangle, the "hole" for the block is a square. I see a chunk of wall missing. I assume (maybe wrongly) that this is one in the same problem? The window is annoying but not really a problem. The gray block at the end of the roof is a real problem. I can not get a good picture of the house with a large gray block at the end of each roof. Thanks ..... Mike |

In the 3D view the roof looks great but I see a gray block at the end. It is the size of the end view of the roof. I can not see through this block. I guess this is due to the ground part that is generated around the walls as soon as there's a wall in the home you export to OBJ. In his guide, Hans suggests that you use also the Copy as new furniture plug-in. Personally, I export a flat box or for more complex shapes, a floor at an upper level (to ensure I'll get both faces), and orientate it degree by degree at the second importation step.2) I draw a triangle window. Again, I export it as an OBJ file. I import it ( as furniture ) and place it into a wall. Although I see the window as a triangle, the "hole" for the block is a square. I see a chunk of wall missing. The hole made by a window is always rectangle in the current version. You will have to add some other shapes to complete the hole.---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: gray "block" when I drop in items ..... Awesome! I will give this a try. This program has been a life saver! I am a mechanical designer and with the exception of some Solid Works projects I did for a group doing CNC 3 axis machining, my work is always done on AutoCad in 2D. My partner (could not get married or she would loose her health insurance) and I just bought a lot and are planning to break ground with in the next month. She is paralyzed from the shoulders down as the result of a diving accident then she was 12 ( she is 32 now). This will be her first house. The program has made it easy to discuss design aspects with her ( clearances, a roll in show, counters that are accessible, ...). I even used the movie feature for the first time (posted it on You Tube) to show a walk through of the house to family (who live 800 miles away), friends and even the builder (it even made it much easier to describe the odd features I needed to him). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUniZrBbGFM It is not "great" but it did do the job. Once we get all the quotes in and the recommended changes from the builders, I will rework the model to be "more correct". There is a lot of details I "faked" just to get the model out in a hurry ( and a lot of details I left out). If you (or anyone) gets a chance to watch it and sees and obvious error I am making using this program, please let me know! I am "learning on the fly". Thanks so much .... Mike [email protected] |
