Installation OK Cannot Save
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could help with the error I am getting!?

Every time I try to save in any directory (local or network) I get the following error:

"Can't Save home in
"C:\3d\home.sh3d"
RecorderException: Can't save home C:\3d\home.sh3d
java.io.IOException: Access is Denied"

Any ideas on where to start?

Using Windows 8 and the latest Java and SweetHome3D. Had to install the SweetHome3D.l4j.ini to make it work at all.

Many thanks!

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
Either C:\3d folder doesn't exist, or you don't have the right to write in that folder.

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
Did you try in another folder like your desktop?

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
Hi guys, thanks for the speedy response.

I created the c:\3d folder and can browse to it in the save dialog box.

I have full permissions on the folder (I am an administrator) and have given 'Everyone' full permissions on the folder.

Same error if I try to save to Desktop, and my Documents folder.

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
Really strange...
And can you save an empty document at least?

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
What did you write in your SweetHome3D.l4j.ini file?

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
There is no need to give java permission to write to the folder(s) I suppose?

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
The ini file is just the Default Direct3D one as downloaded from the site.

Contents:

# Place this file in the same directory as SweetHome3D.exe file to always run Sweet Home 3D with DirectX
-Dj3d.rend=d3d
-Dsun.java2d.d3d=true
-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=false
-Dsun.java2d.ddoffscreen=true
-Dsun.java2d.ddscale=true
-Dcom.eteks.sweethome3d.deploymentInformation=DirectX

That would be a little tedious for many users... wink

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
By the way, you didn't need to install Java. The installer version of Sweet Home 3D comes with its own private copy of Java (it's in the jre6 subfolder of the installation folder of Sweet Home 3D).

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
Stupid questions:
Is you disk full?
Can you save a document with other software?

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
37GB free

Do I need Java 6 installed?

I downloaded Java 7 Update 21 from the Oracle site and installed that...

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
As said previously, you don't need to install Java, but I don't think that removing Java will solve your issue.

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
I only installed Java because I thought the lack of Java was causing the error!

I have uninstalled Java, and Sweet Home, restarted and reinstalled. Still can't save.

Have tried the same but running the installer as Administrator, still no change.

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
Any further thoughts?

The software is great, I just don't want to involve myself in anything, if I can't subsequently save it!!

Thanks

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
No idea at the moment. Never heard about this case, and really don't understand why you couldn't save.
Meanwhile, you can still use the Online version which proposes the same features, except you can't import as much 3D models as you want. If you can't export the SH3D file of your project too, I'll send it to you by email.

Re: Installation OK Cannot Save
A new idea: did you try to open an existing .sh3d file of the gallery, then save it?
