Re: Plan of a car-port framework
Yes, I guess. But if you need to visualise the structure, it may be easier to download structural elements as objects/furniture. You could look for 'charpente' in Collada / DAE format on http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ - just drag and drop zipped file into your model.

For instance this

PS - thanks for pointing me to the word.
NO: takstol = FR: charpente de toiture
anyone know it in English? Roof Structure?

Re: Plan of a car-port framework
You can try: roof beam(s) or A-frame. The last is used esp. in USA, as far as I know.

If you need a carport, searching for "carport" will also give you many models. If necessary delete the house using Sketchup.

Which helped me find "roof truss" - which I think covers what I need.

Thanks.

Actually, having looked quickly:

http://visual.merriam-webster.com/house.php
and
http://visual.merriam-webster.com/arts-architecture/architecture.php

are useful for anyone looking for the English (US) term for building elements. They didn't teach much of that at school...
