App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. Hi, I'm new to this app and recently installed it on my Mac. The program freezes whenever I try to open or save to file. Sometimes it crashes after some time, sometimes I have to shut it down. I don't have any such issues with JAVA version, but I prefer to use a native application for Mac OS X. Any suggestions or solutions? |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. All versions use Java. Do you mean you tried the DMG installer? ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. I tried the one that I purchased and downloaded from the AppStore (yes, it should be DMG). It freezes everytime I click "open" in the file menu. Later on I downloaded the free java version with a limited number of models - I don't have any problem with it - it works as it supposed to. But I still would like to get a native Mac OS application working. |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. Additionally, I noted another great bug. The app crashes every time I try to change the texture of the object - the table or the chair. I don't know the reason of it, should it be the JAVA problem or not, but I certainly can not work on it normally. |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. Mac App Store and free versions use different versions of Java and Java 3D library, so the problem could come from one of these parts. Your first problem with open/save made me think it's a Java issue, but then your second issue with textures looks more like a 3D issue. Two users reported to me they had some serious crash problems with Mac App Store version, and both of them used it on Mac Pro computers. It's not enough to deduce it's a problem that may happen on this kind of computer, but this could be a clue. Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. I have Macbook Air 2013 model and Max OS X 10.9.5 installed. I tried to install old JAVA version as suggested on one of the forums and also tried to install a newest JAVA update from Oracle - none of this worked. |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. Thanks for the information about your computer. I tried to install old JAVA version as suggested on one of the forums and also tried to install a newest JAVA update from Oracle - none of this worked. You could install any Java version, that won't make Sweet Home 3D Mac App Store version use it because this version comes with its own private Oracle Java version. But since you installed Oracle Java version beside that, I would like you to run the two following tests if you don't mind: - In the Online version, try to change the texture of an object. As the Online version will run Oracle Java version and the same Java 3D library as in the Mac App Store version, I would be curious to know if you encounter some problems here too. - Try to open or save a file with the Java Web Start version (to run it, click on this link then double-click on the SweetHome3D.jnlp file you'll have downloaded). As the Java Web Start should run with Oracle Java version, if it still fails that would mean that there are problems in the management of sandboxed applications (i.e. Mac App Store programs). In that case, I would be curious to know if you have no problem to open / save files with other Mac App Store applications, if you have any (you could try with a free one if you don't have any other one). Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. Yesterday night I decided to check with the previous version of Mac OS. So I erased the whole hard drive and made a clean install of Mac OS 10.8.5. Today morning, right after setting up a clean OS environment, I installed Sweethome3D and open my working file. Everything seems to work perfectly - I can open the files, change textures or import them from another files. No crashes so far. So, I'm not sure what was exactly the root of the problem - the next thing I'll try to restore my data using the Time Machine and will check it once again. |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. Thanks for taking the time to make this in-depth tests! Knowing that Sweet Home 3D works on a clean install of the system is a very valuable information. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. Hi, Emmanuel. Just to let you know - the Time Machine did not help, as it restored the system completely to its previous condition, including the OS X Mavericks. And the problem came back again. So for now I know for sure that software works on a clean install of OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion. I'm still not sure if it will work on a clean install of OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks. Now I will have to do another clean install of 10.8.5 and will manually restore all data from my backup. |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. And following to your suggestions. I could not run an online version - it opens in Safari but most of buttons are inactive so I can not really open anything. With regards to Java Web start version, I encountered another problem - the file opens, I can change the textures etc., however 3D-view is disabled. The reason is unknown. So I will better go with a clean install of OS - this looks to be the only solution for me. Thank you for your help and the info. |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. I can confirm same behaviour. I installed from the dmg a year or so back. On OSX 10.8.5 SH3d ran fine. I don't remember which version of Java (Apple or Oracle) was being used. Since I updated to Mavericks 10.9.5 a few weeks back, SH3d will only show the splash screen and the SweetHome3d menu with Preferences and Quit. There are no other menu items. I can't go back to 10.8.5 at this time. So help getting this to run on 10.9.x would be appreciated. |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. Hi, bunk3m. I run a few tests and confirm that native Sweethome 3D app works smoothly both on 10.8.5 and on 10.9.5 as soon as both systems are clean. By no chance I could get it run on the latest 10.9.5 with all my software and apps installed, so I just made yet another clean install of 10.8.5 (formatted HDD and recovered via Internet) and now I'm recovering all my data manually from the latest time machine backup (including mails, iTunes library, software settings etc.) Looks like the only solution to me, and I decided to hang with 10.8.5 and prevent from running Mavericks at the moment (and especially Yosemite which looks like a complete disaster!!!). |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. My 10.9.5 system running on an iMac i7 is far from clean: I updated it from 10.7.5 recently, and the 10.7.5 install was itself an update from older systems, but I never had any problem to run Sweet Home 3D on it. Then, I suspect an error in Apple graphic drivers on some computers, or an extension that would interact with your system. In the case of mihalich, it's probably the second kind of issue since Sweet Home 3D runs on a clean install of the system. bunk3m, on which kind of computer did you try? ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. Thanks for the suggestions. I didn't receive a notice of the post so apologize for not coming back quickly to see your suggestions. I downloaded v4.5 today. I deleted my JDK1.7. This was the only Java on my MBP. When I upgraded to 10.9.5 I did a clean install. v4.5 gets as far as saying that Java 6 is missing and if I want to download. Well I don't want to put Java 6 on this. I have JDK1.7 and JDK1.8. Is there a work around to get SH3D to start using java 7 or 8? |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS.I tried this from another post: java -Xmx2048m -jar /path/to/SweetHome3D-4.3.jarbut get an error: Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile /Applications/Sweet Home 3D.app/Contents/Resources/Java/SweetHome3D.jar![]() |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. You should try with the executable Jar distributed separately not the one included in Sweet Home 3D.app folder. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. I did some work deleting Java and reinstalling on OSX 10.9 and I was able to get Eclipse to start without any problems but not SH3D. The error message from console is: 11.11.2014 5:23:41.057 PM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[286]: (com.eteks.sweethome3d.SweetHome3D.47200[22378]) Exited with code: 1Can you share with me why it exits with this error? I downloaded the Jar file from the link in the post above. This works OK. Thanks for your help! ![]() |

Re: App freezes and/or crashes in Mac OS. Did you read the recommandations described in the README.TXT file included with source code? If you don't set the java.ext.dirs property, it won't work. ---------------------------------------- Emmanuel Puybaret, Sweet Home 3D creator |
