confused   How do I install a '.tgz' file
First off, what a fantastic program.

I'm running version 4.3 under Kubuntu 14.04 (Linux). It is the version that is available in Muon Package Manager. I am having a problem installing version 4.6, as it is in '.tgz' format.

I have never figured how to manually install programs unless they are in '.deb. format - Which basically installs itself, all you do is open it and it self installs.

How do I install a '.tgz' file?

A tgz file is just a compressed folder.
Don't you have an Extract item in the contextual menu of the file, like under Ubuntu?

As suggested in the download page, run the SweetHome3D command it contains, eventually using this tip to launch it with a double click.
