Wooden Stairway (180° / U form)
Hey,

I am currently planning our new home and therefore looking for a wooden stairway having a U-form (180°).

I have already looked through many object bibs but did not find any. I always thought that this would be a rather standard stairway.

Yes, well, they way you describe the 180° staircase, it sounds standard. However, there are quite a few ways of making such a staircase. I put a couple of preliminary staircases in SF 3D models 329 (some other models are there already). These two are part of a collection I am working on (annoyingly, work keeps disturbing me). Alas, only with landings (which is the most common design for a 180° staircases, at least here). Use the invisible texture to hide/remove elements (handrail, balusters, riser etc). Textures can, of course, be replaced. I think the texture mapping is not too far off, but the staircases are just drafts.

The two test models are inserted in test_staircase_180_landing.sh3d. Note that my floor height is 250/265 cm, this may have to be adjusted. Hope this helps (and please let me know).

Hey okh,

thank you very much. Although this is not exactly what I am looking for, it will definitely help me a lot to play around with your example.

The "u-shape" I am looking for is rather similar to example "f" in the following picture:

Why didn't you just say ? smile. Try this one (risers are hidden, add texture/colour to 'close' the staircase. U shape, UK style in my mind (narrow and dangerous). Reminds me of UK B&Bs, probably unfair. Again - test model. Comments appreciated. ok

By the way, I did put some effort into making the staircases satisfy a sort of generic set of legal requirements in terms of angle, step depth (thread), ratio between thread and rise, nosing etc. Also, I checked whether staircase with similar dimensions were available as standard models. That said, every legislator seems to have an opinion on building elements (and especially staircases), which means that the dimensions may not be according to local legal requirements. Or building code may allow more hazardous approaches (e.g. in the UK steeper staircases are allowed in private homes, that would be in other European countries). ok

Here in the state I live in, Georgia - USA, the building code requires stairs to be at least 3' wide with a 7" rise and 11" step. I believe that's about it.
I could be wrong about more requirements though. I was just a lowly electrician and wasn't well versed in building codes other than electrical.

Any way to have these stairs without the arrow on them? In 3D View the arrow is not there but is on the 2D planning view.

I posted a new version without the planIcon, but kept other SH3D model information (including cutout M0,0 v1 h0.9 v-0.728 h0.1 v-0.272 z).

But I am curious, why would you not want the stairs direction indicator in the 2D plan? To me it is better to work with more explanatory icons.
