Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
Alright, here's a long post with a lot of pictures. As mentioned in my thread about a Tiny home, I have been working on an enlarged version. Here it is, in all its "glory".

The front of the house, three different angles.

The back of the house, two different angles.

Ground floor, screenshot of the floor plan.

First floor, screenshot of the floor plan.

Top floor, screenshot of the floor plan. Yes I realize there's not much here; it is attic space.

Living room, taken from the front door.

Living room, taken from the dining room entrance.

Dining room.

Kitchen, with the pantry area at the very end.

Pantry area, taken from in front of the door to the Laundry/Utility room. I've got the dishwasher as well as a freezer here.

Laundry/Utility room, taken from the back door. The door that's visible is the door to the pantry area. There's a wardrobe there for cleaning supplies on the right (the blurry white block on the right), with some cabinetry and a work top next to it. On the left is the water heater and the HVAC system (well, that what is supposed to be the HVAC system).

The small "hallway". The entrance to the dining room is on the far left, the entrance to the stairway is next to that, the door to a closet is in the middle and the door to the half bathroom is on the right.

The half bathroom.

The stairway, taken at its base on the ground floor.

The stairway, taken at its entrance to the first floor.

The first floor hallway, taken from the stairway entrance, looking toward the master bedroom. The door to the right of the master bedroom door is to the office.

Walk down the hallway a little and there's a turn to the left. The door to the bathroom is on the left, behind the loft stairs to the attic is the door to the bedroom, and on the right are the doors to a linen closet and a regular closet.

Looking back down the hallway from the master bedroom door. You have a close up picture of the office door on the left; the bathroom door is visible on the right.

Master bedroom, taken from the door to the hallway. The bit of wall on the left is to the small walk in closet.

Master bedroom, taken from the one corner. The door on the left is to the small walk in closet, and the door on the right is to the master bathroom.

Master bathroom, taken from the corner by the door. Although it's not visible, there is a window.

The Office/Den. As usual, I've decorated it as a sewing room (most will notice that I put a sewing room into just about every home I've put together? biggrin)

Full bathroom.

Bedroom. I have a wardrobe and a bookcase instead of a closet and dresser. I figured there wasn't much room for a closet but the bookcase can be switched out for a tall dresser.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
Here's another house I've been going through and updating, and unfortunately I can't take pictures of it right now as it has gotten to be so huge (103.4 MB!). I think that once I've gotten it all done, I'll have to save different sections to separate files and empty out the house on the main one.

I think what else makes this file so big is the fact that I've actually added a detached 1-car garage. I also added some landscaping, although I'm not quite done with that yet.

Here's a teaser of the updates.

I like this tiny home! There is a new one behind?

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
Thank you VeroniQ.

Yes, there is a new building behind the enlarged "tiny home"; it's the detached garage. Here's another screenshot of the outside at a different angle showing the front of the garage.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
So, I've split the file into at least three just so that I can start taking rendered pictures. I have one file for the exterior - basically an empty house with built-ins and lights - and that's the one that I've been able to get pictures of so far. The other files have the furnishings, and I'm trying to get rendered pictures to showcase the changes.

Screenshot of the main floor.

Screenshot of the top floor.

I did not take a picture of the attic space as it didn't change.

Aerial front, from one corner. You can see that I even shortened the garage and have a small patio area.

Aerial back, from the patio side. Not much to it, just an umbrella, table set, and grill.

Aerial side, showing the front of the garage. I figure with the garage facing like this that this house is likely to be on a corner lot.

Virtual visitor view of the front, as seen from the sidewalk.

Virtual visitor view of the patio, looking toward the walkway between the house and garage.

Virtual visitor view of the front of the garage. When I first tried to get this picture, I realized that I hadn't put any lighting near the exterior doors (it was very dark). I took this after the aerial view of the garage, which is why that picture doesn't have the lighting.

Oh, I almost forgot the texture I used for the roofing.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I've had to do some additional changes to the furnishings in the Living Room/Dining Room/Kitchen/Pantry areas as some of what I was using were large in size (some of the furniture was over 3MB apiece!), just so that I could get some renderings done. At this moment, I have a couple different angles of the Living Room and one of the Dining Room ready to be posted, and I'm working on getting a couple of the Kitchen/Pantry areas.

Living Room.

Dining Room.

As you can see I've used a great deal of old Japanese/Oriental textures to the place as I happen to like the style. If I were able to find furnishings that were more Japanese in styling that wasn't so large (in bytes that is) I would have, but I settled more for the textures.

The armchair, the pillows, the placemats and the border on the round rug have this kimono inspired texture:

Each framed picture has its own different Japanese art, either a woodblock print, photograph or painting.

The plates and the small vase on the dining table have this texture:

I've even made the round rug using tatami:

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I got renderings done of the Kitchen/Pantry area, three in fact.

This one is taken from the Dining Room entryway. I purposely had the camera angled so that the little bit of the Living Room was visible in the shot.

This one is taken from the corner near the Laundry/Utility Room. Here you can see into the Dining area and a little bit of the staircase area.

This one is taken from the corner near the tall cabinet in the Pantry area. More of the staircase area is visible in this one.

As you can see, I've changed the refrigerator to this vintage styled one and made it black. I've also changed the cabinet facings to mimic black lacquer (the sides of the lower cabinets as well). There's a different cooker and hood, I changed to a darker countertop and backsplash, changed the shelving over the sink, and swapped the placement of the dishwasher and freezer. Oh, I also changed the design of the dishwasher, and I took out that one wall that making the counter and cabinets between the two areas more seamless.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I don't know why I didn't include these renderings in my previous post.

The staircase area. I changed out the window used, and pushed the Japanese step cabinet back closer to the wall. I made some adjustments to the chandelier as well; made it a bit smaller and a little higher up, as well as darkened the crystals and metal of it. That's about it for this area.

It seems to me that this chandelier doesn't quite work well with the Japanese motif; I guess if I were able to build this house, I'd probably use something more along these lines instead (Origami V Medium Pendant Light):

Or maybe like this (Corbett Lighting 105-75 Shoji 22 Inch Wide Foyer Pendant):

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I decided to go for it and use a downloaded hanging light; I found one that was close to what I was looking for, and isn't a very large file to boot! So, I changed out the one I had in the Stair area as well as the one in the Dining room.

This new hanging light originally was made out of wood (as well as paper screening which I left as is), but I changed it to be made out of distressed metal (as shown below).

I found that in making those switches the file was small enough I was able to put back the ceiling fan in the Living room - that I'd originally wanted - without making the file too big to render pictures! Yay! applause

I've also finished getting rendered pictures of the rest of the main floor, including the detached garage.

Half Bath. Not much changed here; different cabinet and hutch near the toilet, shortened the window a couple of inches, reduced the size of the towel (as well as changed the towel's color), and added a second framed picture (the edge of it is just visible on the right side of the picture).

Laundry / Utility room. The first picture is taken from the door to the Kitchen / Pantry, and the second picture is taken from the side door. As you can see I switched the cabinets with the washer/dryer/sink, and I believe I also have both windows the same size. And, upon looking at the second picture, I think I might deepen the tall cabinet near the Kitchen / Pantry door... which I figured I could do quickly, and now the tall cabinet is part of the wall.

The detached garage. The first picture is taken from the corner near the door. The second picture is taken from the workstation.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
And I don't know why that first picture of the Laundry / Utility room came out that way; when I changed the tall cabinet as seen in the third picture, I added another upper cabinet above the washing machine, yet it didn't show up in the picture...

This is what I was trying to post.

Okay, I think I have a solution to show some of my pictures (the ones that I still have on my computer that is; I'll see about downloading others from Photobucket when I get a chance). These were the most recent ones posted that I hadn't thrown away yet.

Living room.

Dining room.

Half Bath.

Laundry / Utilities room, two angles.

Stair area, two angles.

1-Car Garage, two angles.

I tried using MediaFire, as well as Flikr, but neither of them showed the pictures. I ended up using TinyPic instead.

Photobucket isn't working and I can't even access those pictures, so I've decided to just take new pictures and put them onto TinyPic.

The Kitchen Pantry area, three views.

I'm currently working on new exterior shots, and should have those soon.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
Just a somewhat quick update as to what I've been up to since my last posting here: I haven't taken any new pictures of this house like I thought I would, seeing as I stumbled across something I find to be rather intriguing (house-plan-wise anyway). I didn't want to create a whole new thread about these, seeing as I didn't actually create these nor have I made any major structural changes to warrant calling these "mine". If someone here thinks that I should make a separate thread (or threads) for these houses let me know. smile

Mainly, I just wanted to see how these houses looked on the inside, but then I wanted to see what they looked like with some modern updates.

Anyway. While looking at Pinterest of all places I came across The Home Builders Catalog which includes oh so many (hundreds) different vintage (1920s I think) house plans - that could be purchased cheaply at the time ($20 US for two complete sets of blueprints, one 16-page guide for listing materials, two sets of specifications and two blank contract forms!!! rolling eyes ).

I looked through and have so far found 3 of them that I find very interesting indeed.

"The Chesapeake". Aerial view of the front. That little bump-out by the side door is where I put the water heater. I haven't figured out how to cover those weird open spots in the walls on the top floor. As you can see, I haven't painted the outside of this yet (except for that one strip above the front porch), although I have completely furnished it.

Taken from the vestibule from next to the stairs, looking into the living room and dining room. I took out the two sets of double doors to the two rooms, opening it up. I didn't want to take out that column as it seems to me to be a crucial spot of the house.

Kitchen taken from the doorway just in from the vestibule. Yes, doorway, not door; I took out the door separating the two spaces, figuring the person who would be in the kitchen would still like to be a part of whatever might be going on in the living room and/or dining room. I also took out the door leading down to the side door. I then put a door between the kitchen and "nook" (if someone here thinks I should replace this door with a doorway, please let me know). Where the refrigerator had been originally seemed a strange place, so I put a pantry there instead, and put the refrigerator closer to the counter.

It looks like next to the side door there are stairs leading down to a basement space not shown on the advertisement; since I live in the California desert, there's no "basements" here and I left those out.

What had been the Nook is now the laundry room. Taken from the door from the kitchen. There is space next to the upper cabinet for the window to open. The flooring of the back porch and the driveway are visible.

I've also furnished the front Chamber on this house to be my sewing room (of course laughing ).

Quick screenshots of the other two houses.

"The Commodore". I haven't worked much on this one; just barely got the floor space figured out (haven't painted or chosen the flooring yet), but I believe I do have the basic built in items included.

Taken from the vestibule looking into the living room and kitchen. There were some strangely placed doors between the vestibule and kitchen; I didn't like those and took them out. I have the built in furnishing in, just haven't made changes to their appearances yet. I also thought the breakup at the back door was just too weird; I opened up that space, as well as taking out the weirdly placed closet, replacing it with a laundry area (although that's not visible in this picture). Oh, and the original had stairs going down into a basement; I took that out and used it as a space to store the water heater and central air - closed off under the stairs.

I wasn't able to completely recreate the hall on the top floor of this house properly (I think) and am not quite happy with it... Maybe that's why I haven't gotten very far with this house...

"The Caruth". As you can see, I've gotten the outside walls all worked out, including the decorative brickwork along the bottom part. I went with "Plan 'A' - Without Basement".

The kitchen and "Screened Porch" (which I've turned into the laundry room, taken from the doorway from the dining room. I've taken that door out and these rooms are all open. I've also taken the door out from between the kitchen and "screened porch".

I took out the both the closet in the vestibule and the linen closet (the way my setup of this came out, the bathroom itself was wider than I think it was originally; the bathtub I used left quite a gap and I've added a tall cabinet to fill in the space), so that there would be a small hallway to the back of the house. If someone here thinks that I ought to put them back, I'll see how that works.

The roofing for these three seem quite intricate and I haven't worked on those yet.

Once I've finished with messing around with those, I'll get back to this house and get the top floor changes rendered. That's all I'm going to mention about these, unless someone here says otherwise. laughing

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I am so devastated at the moment; my computer crashed on me yesterday without warning, and I lost a good number of the house designs I've been working on (not to mention other things I'd saved on it). The ones that I didn't lose were ones that I downloaded to MediaFire, but some of those aren't quite updated (I posted those there then made modifications, but didn't save the modifications). crying

So, it looks like some of them I'm going to have to start from scratch, and some I'll have to update, hopefully with the help of the pictures I've posted here and on Facebook as references. That'll take some time though.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I've gotten a new computer; not a "hand-me-down", not a refurbished one, but a brand new Mac. No power issues so far (my fingers are crossed) and the first thing I did was start the redraft of this house.

I've been working on it almost all day (I did have to stop to eat dinner, at least laughing), but here's the link to it in its current state; it's never a bad idea to save early and often to the net wink:

TinyHomeEnlargedRedraft.sh3d

I've got the basics of it, so far anyway. The walls are up, doors and windows are in place, the outside is almost as "dressed up" as it was before (ie. trees, hedges, different patio furnishings but no flowers, mainly because I haven't gone looking for them yet), and a few built-ins are too.

I've got some different textures for the walkways and the "street" but personally I think these are a bit better. smile

Some of the furniture that I'd gotten from 3D Warehouse wasn't available (I couldn't find the same stairs or the arch that I'd had over the entryway) so I got different items that work too. The one thing that I couldn't find on their website that I really wanted was the pergola that I have between the house and the garage; I had to actually copy and paste it from one of the houses that I had saved on MediaFire.

The walls aren't painted, the flooring doesn't have a texture, I haven't "named" the rooms, there isn't any roofing, no lights, etc. Some of the rooms are different sizes; I couldn't help that since I was going by pictures of the original 2D floor plan that didn't have the exact measurements listed, but I think I got pretty close.

I also made a few changes from the original, like the shaping of the patio, added a couple of gates and a fence, took out the closet on the main floor to put in an exterior door closer to the patio, etc.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
Thank you, rontant.

Yes, this house isn’t “tiny”, but it was inspired by another house that I had created (and would need to recreate also if I still want it to work on) that started out based on the “tiny homes” that seem to be all the rage recently. There is a thread that I’d done on it before starting this one. And that one certainly isn’t as tiny as the one you shared. Wow, is that tiny! Although, the interior pictures don’t appear to be as tiny as the exterior would belay.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I've "finished" this house, all furnished, with it coming in at a whopping 32.4 MB compressed. biggrin I have the time set at 10:12 am PST (yes, strange time to have it set at, but that's the time set on the clock that's in the program - although I don't have one in this house; I just like having a strange time).

Front, aerial view.

Front, from the sidewalk.

Garage side, aerial view.

Garage side, from the sidewalk.

Just like with my "Tudor Castle Rethink" that I posted a few days ago, I've cut back on the number of hedges and elongated the remaining ones to help save file space. I've got the roofing on, the walls stuccoed and the windows and doors painted/finished.

Just an FYI - when I took the Virtual Visitor pictures above I hadn't realized that I'd left the "Add ceiling lights" on, so there's more lighting seen from the outside than what's really inside in those pictures.

Living room; the first picture taken from the corner near the front door, the second near the dining room entrance. I don't know why the couch rendered so strangely.

Dining room. I don't know why the lighting is so low, even after turning up the hanging light's brightness. I even tried putting a light source outside, changing the time of day so that the sun comes in, but still dark, so I just left it as is.

Half bath near the stairway. Not much to see in here.

Kitchen and pantry. The cabinets are all in the same pale green as the walls, except for the fronts which are in a shiny black. I just realized that I haven't included a backsplash; I guess that I haven't quite "finished" this house after all. laughing

Laundry/Utilities room, taken from the side door. Built in storage closet near the washer/dryer, and a locker bench to the right of the side door.

Stairway; the first picture taken from the bottom looking up, and the second taken from the top looking down. Neither of the pictures have the hanging light visible; it's just like the one in the dining room just larger. Also, for some reason both pictures rendered strangely, with some sort of boxed in area; these are the only ones that I noticed this in.

Full bath upstairs. The toilet is just out of frame bottom right.

Small bedroom. Wardrobe with drawers next to the desk, bookshelf in front of twin bed.

Small office. Surprise, surprise; I have this room decorated as a sewing room.

Master bedroom.

Master bathroom. The cabinets are supposed to be a dark green, almost black, but they came out brighter than intended.

Garage. I realized when I went to render this picture that I'd forgotten to put lighting inside, so that's why the aerial exterior picture is so dark inside the garage.

Back patio. I realized when I went to render this picture that I'd forgotten to put in a light back here, after I'd taken all of the other outside pictures, which is why the lamp isn't visible in them.

The passageway between the back of the house and the garage, looking toward the back patio. I realized when I went to render this picture that I'd also forgotten to put lighting not only by the back door, but also in front of the garage.

If you want to look through this house, here's a link to the file: http://www.mediafire.com/file/k7e76d3c9t8rw44...raft%25282%2529.sh3d/file

Side note: If you're wondering why there's so much of the furniture and such are green, green is my favorite color. laughing

Mediafire has changed the way we are able to share images directly, more complicated, but, if when you choose the option to share, you also select "use old site" i think you will be ok.
Well done with these latest images, have you come to a final version of the "what if" home?

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I apologize for not replying promptly regarding your inquiry about my “what if” home. Since your question came in I went back to the 2-story one to look and see if there was something that I could update on it, and of course that is exactly what I have been doing for the last few days. As a matter of fact I’m working on getting a bunch of new pictures of what I’ve changed with it to post as soon as I can. I’ll probably even post a quick update message on that thread.

Since it is a little after 3 am here I’m going to get some sleep. Good night for now.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I've gone back to this house and (surprisingly) made some changes. Not really many major changes, but there have been a few minor ones.

Here's one of the major changes. I figured since the Master Bedroom had its own bathroom, and that there was a powder room downstairs, there was no reason for the other bathroom to be accessible directly from the hallway, and made it as an en suite to the bedroom. In so doing, I moved the one wall so that there was more room in that bedroom, taking some space from both the hallway and the bathroom; I'd felt that that bedroom was just a little too small to begin with. Unfortunately, I still didn't add a proper closet. Anyway, in shortening the bathroom I couldn't keep the bathtub and switched it out for a shower stall, then rearranged the furniture.

Here's the other major change. I figured that the Office would be my sewing room, and that the Master bedroom is my room, that I'd have the office basically only accessible from the Master bedroom. So, I moved the one wall with the Master bedroom door flush with the Closet and Linen wall, moved the Office door and all the furniture in the Office.

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
Surprisingly, I haven't technically gone back to this file, but I have created another new one based on this. I guess it's ironic, being inspired by an inspiration. laughing I suppose that if my internet weren't down for most of the day I might not have done this.

Now, it's not finished; I haven't customized anything, added any lights, worked on the roofing, or furnished all the rooms. The thing is, I'd started by taking one of my Fantasy 6th Street homes (basically using the lot my current home is on) mainly because I thought that the lot on which I'd originally used seemed to be quite small. Anyway, I ended up with a home way larger than the original.

There's a guest suite on the bottom floor, along with a powder room. I think that I might have the Laundry/Utility/Mud Room a bit to big maybe. Oh, and there's 3 bedrooms and a bathroom on the second floor, along with the Master Suite.

This one seems to be a mansion. biggrin

I might change the angle of the roof though... I don't know...

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I've been working on the alternate version, interspersed with working on fabric face masks for family and friends. Here are the pictures that I've gotten so far.

First, a few outside shots.

Now, the few inside shots that I've rendered so far.

Just inside the front door, looking down the entryway to the Great Room. The two doors visible on the right are to the front closet and the guest suite, and the one all the way in the back is one of the back doors.

Two pictures of the Living Room portion of the Great Room, with the back door and the door to the Powder Room visible in the first one.

Two pictures of the Dining Room portion of the Great Room, with the Kitchen portion, the double doors to the Office and the door to the Laundry/Utility Room visible in the first one. I think that I might have the lamp above the dining table just a little too bright though...

I'll get more pictures rendered shortly, I think...

Re: Home inspired by my "Tiny home"
I've finally got the rest of the pictures rendered of the alternate home. I've now noticed as I'm posting these pictures that in some of the objects didn't quite render very well and I apologize for that.

The Kitchen, two different angles. The first taken from near the Laundry Room door, the second from near the back door and powder room.

Guest Bedroom, taken in front of the En Suite Bathroom.

Guest En Suite Bathroom, taken under the bathroom window.

The Office, two different angles. The first taken from the double doors, the second from on top of the cabinet below the windows.

The Laundry/Utility/Mud Room, taken near the other back door.

The Powder Room.

The Stairwell, Landing and Hallways. And yes, I have frosted glass inside the large windows. The doors down that last Hallway picture are as follows (from left to right): first Bedroom, second Bedroom, linen closet, third Bedroom, Main Bathroom. The Office and Master Suite are down the other hallway.

The first, smallest Bedroom.

The second, middle-sized Bedroom.

The third, largest Bedroom. Second in size to the Master Bedroom.

Main Bathroom.

The Sewing/Crafting Room, or possibly a second Office, two different angles.

The Master Bedroom, taken from two angles. The first is taken from near the door to the hallway. The second is taken from the nightstand in the corner. The doors visible in the second picture are (from left to right) to the hallway, the En Suite Bathroom, and the Walk-in Closet.

The Master Bedroom Walk-in Closet. Now that I look at this picture I think that I might have the lighting a little too dim.

The Master En Suite Bathroom.

The Garage.

The Back Passage, between the house and the Garage. I have this area pretty wide; I might add some extra seating or something in here.

The Back Patio.

The Attic space.
