Single Story Bungalow
As bdfd pointed out, it seems that almost all of the houses I've created have had more than a single story - only one in fact was single-story. Well, that's changed with this house. biggrin

Last week, while my neighborhood seemed to be having internet issues, I was just "playing around" with this software and came up with the following:

Re: Single Story Bungalow
It's been a few months since I worked on this one.

I found something on 3D Warehouse that I could use for covering the patio, and while in the program I made a few adjustments.

Front aerial view. Added a walkway to the street, and one from the garage to the back. Added another door to garage, mainly to take out the garbage without going through the main part of the house. Small changes to the row of windows over the front door; brought them down 1/2 inch and widened them 3 inches.

Back aerial view. Of course added the patio roofing, and then added the lighting in the area. Found a different dog house at 3D Warehouse and changed it for the one I'd had before. Added a matching screen door from the front to the back door.

Screenshot of the overall floor plan.

Virtual visitor view from the corner looking out on the patio.

Garage, with the new door visible. I also painted the two storage cabinets.

Laundry room. I added a bit of upper cabinetry.

Great room. You can see the changes to the upper windows. I also added wall lights to the window nook area, enlarged the lamps on the tables, and changed the crystal color on the chandelier from yellow to gray.

Re: Single Story Bungalow
After revisiting the Tudor Castle recently, I felt like revisiting this one as well. As opposed to making changes to the whole house, this time it's only to the outside. smile

Front aerial. A friend of mine looked at the front and thought the two trees in the front looked odd, so I changed that area to a front sitting porch instead, using the same beams for the back porch for this part too, following the roof line. And the blue rectangles on the roof are solar panels; I might think of adding more maybe.

The graphic I used for the solar panels. I did find a solar panel "furniture" on 3D Warehouse that sits on the roof, but I didn't like the graphic that was used.

I also figured I probably should add a bit of fencing to mark off the back area.

Back aerial. In adding the fencing in the front, I also added a second walkway going around the other side of the house, hooking up with the back door.

Floor plan (with the roofing left visible), mainly to show the new front porch and walkway. You might also notice the car parked in the driveway is really dark. I noticed that when I went to render the front aerial view that the car was coming up a very pale ugly green; getting it this dark got it to render in the nicer green.

Hi Aeowyn
Back and busy again, good to see you here.
Its suprising how we can all find just a few things to change when we probably all thought the original was good.
Nice work on the updates and the images are getting better every showing.
Well done smile

Thank you, Miker777. With any work of art, there's never a point where the artist is completely satisfied with the outcome, even after it's been put out for public display. And with anything we do, the more one works on something the more one improves. smile

Re: Single Story Bungalow
Thank you, bdfd. I apologize for how long it's taken me to thank you as I have been trying to update the interior some on this project as well as another one (as mentioned in my Help posting). Since I've been updating this one, the file seems to have gotten a bit large. I've been trying to get new rendered pictures, but it seems to be taking a long time to do so. I think I'm probably going to have to utilize a blank file, and copy the rooms as I take each picture. sad As soon as I've gotten a good number of them done I'll post them

Re: Single Story Bungalow
Here are some of the renderings I've gotten so far.

The Great Room, taken from just inside the front door. Here you can see down the first part of the hallway. I've changed up some of the textures on the furniture. You'll also notice the open area in the back corner, to the left of the entertainment center; that's where a Christmas tree can go, although I'm thinking I might want to think of putting something there maybe to take away just how bare it looks there... and with most the roof as high as it is, it's possible to have a Christmas tree there that's over 8 feet high! smile I've also moved the chairs and couches over so that they're more centered in the room, and I added the grouped framed pictures above the entertainment center.

The Great Room, taken from the back corner, where a Christmas tree would go. Here you get a better view of the textural changes to the furniture, and you can better see that the upper windows were changed as well (I forgot to mention it with the exterior views) - I'd raised narrowed them a little. The window seat and the shelving around it didn't render well at all; they were supposed to be all white. And you get a glimpse of some of the changes to both the Dining Room and the Kitchen.

The Dining Room, taken from just in from the Great Room in the corner. As you can see I did change out the cabinet; that's the most significant change here. Other changes made were the textures on the plates and rug, and instead of Stargazer lilies they're yellow. Oh, and I added a couple of framed pictures (one is visible, the other is behind the virtual visitor). You also get a closer look into the kitchen with the change in its color scheme - blue instead of green.

Here's a screenshot of the Great Room, Dining Room and Kitchen's floor plan. As you can see by the positioning of the virtual visitor here, my next rendering should be of the kitchen from near the Laundry Room door.

Re: Single Story Bungalow
I realize it's hard to see in my previous pictures, but here are the new textures I used.

Blue velvet upholstery fabric which I used on the sofa and love seat.

Blue striped upholstery fabric which I used on the one armchair, the dining room chairs and the two chairs in the kitchen.

Yellow floral upholstery fabric which I used on the other armchair and some of the the pillows.

Blue plaid which I used on the plates.

I've been in the process of rendering a picture of the kitchen. The hold-up? I've made some changes... again... laughing Also, it's taking a good amount of time for the program to actually render it; hopefully I'll have a picture to present soon.

I'm almost finish rendering the changes to the kitchen and I should have that posted shortly.

In the meantime, as a sort of "teaser", here's the floor plan view:

Not many changes in the way of the cabinetry, mostly color and texture, but it's quite different that before. smile

Re: Single Story Bungalow
Finally, after about 5 hours, I have the kitchen rendered.

As you can see, the walls aren't blue but the same pale yellow as the great room and dining room. In the preparation area, there are several changes made. First, I realized that I really didn't have much room near the double ovens, for setting down hot dishes, so I at first switched the drawers cabinet with the wider lower cabinet, which meant moving the upper cabinets around and the sink - as well as the window - in order to make it work. No problem. So, at that point I had two drawers cabinets to the left of the sink.

Then I realized that I hadn't put in a dishwasher. At first I had placed it between the sink and the double ovens, but I didn't like losing the storage near the ovens (for storing baking dishes mostly) so I ended up taking the lower cabinet out from next to the refrigerator and put the drawers cabinets in its place so that I could put the dishwasher to the left of the sink.

After that, I realized that I didn't like the way the cook top and hood looked; changed those both. I also realized that I didn't like the refrigerator that I'd had in place and changed that.

Upon looking at the area above the sink I thought it looked a bit... empty... so I added the arch as well as used a "box" to create the moulding at the top of it. I also thought the wall near the entrance to the dining room was bare and added the 3-picture frame - with pictures of food laughing.

On the other side of the room, I kept the bookshelf and the breakfast nook in the same places, but painted the wood to an off-white.

The extra storage however I didn't like, felt that it didn't fit with the room. I changed out the lower cabinets for a desk (painted off-white) with a matching countertop to the rest of the kitchen - it's also the same height as the kitchen cabinet - replaced one of the upper cabinets with a hutch, added a corner shelf (which I then mirrored near the breakfast nook as seen at the far left of the picture) and added a bar chair similar to the chairs with the breakfast nook.

Finally, I moved the hanging lights and added additional ceiling lights as well as lighting under the upper cabinets. I also added a wall calendar near the desk but it's not visible in either the rendered photo (the bookcase is in the way) or the floor plan previously shown.

I'll be working on a different angle of the kitchen as soon as I can get it rendered.

Re: Single Story Bungalow
Here's the rendered picture of the kitchen from a different angle.

And as I look at it, it looks like getting into those drawers near the dishwasher would be next to impossible... I'm probably going to have to take both out completely and put the lower cabinet back in place... And maybe change out those upper glass cabinets to the left of the refrigerator for the ones without glass...

I think any changes that I might make, I'll do that later.

Hi,

Nice kitchen with cuty colors. love struck

Just a remark :
I would not like to have in my back something that cooked while I was eating.
It would be dangerous right ?

It will be just a 'little' update for the cabinets...

Now that you mention it, that is an issue that has been tickling at the back of my mind and I see that it is something I should take care of before moving on. I have a few things I'm thinking on doing to remedy this issue and, once I've done it. I should post another updated picture (or two). Thank you for voicing something that's needed. smile

Re: Single Story Bungalow
I had a thought about the table set in the dining room... I thought that it needed more seating than the breakfast nook would fit and be a bit more formal.

I took out the 6-seat table set I'd put in - as well as the plate sets and lilies - and replaced it with an 8-seat table set that included its own plate settings and centerpiece. If I could have kept the lilies I would have been happy, but this works as well. biggrin

Yeah, I realize it's way early for Christmas. biggrin I just was curious how it would look.

Anyway, I've taken a quick couple of rendered pictures of the front of the house seeing as I did another update to it. laughing

I took out half of the sitting area, doubled the patio beams, and added a gardening center. Oh, and changed the wood texture used.

Re: Single Story Bungalow
Here I am, back working at getting rendered pictures of this house. So, here are the remaining rooms.

The first bedroom, taken near the door to the hallway. The closets (yes, two of the) are just out of shot, around the corner which is visible on the left.

The second bedroom, also taken near the door to the hallway. It's a mirror of the first bedroom, and I just realized that I forgot to include pictures above the two beds like there are in the first bedroom.

The main bathroom, also take from the door to the hallway. The shower (well the shower curtain) is visible in the vanity mirror.

The master bedroom, first taken from the double door to the hallway, second taken from the opposite corner. Yes, those are supposed to be mirrors on the art deco vanity, but they didn't render well. The door to the left of the double door to the hallway is to the master bathroom. The other double doors on the right are to the walk-in closet.

The master bedroom's walk-in closet, first taken from the door to the master bedroom, second taken from the window looking into the master bedroom. One side is "his", the other side is "hers", both mirrors of each other.

The master bathroom. As you can see, I've changed the color scheme.

There aren't any changes to the garage and laundry room, so there's no pictures of them.

Re: Single Story Bungalow
I figure I might as well add an update to this thread, since it's been some time since it was updated, as well as share the file for this house (the unfurnished version that is) as it currently stands.

I'll also be adding updates to a few other threads as well, with a similar layout to this update.

3B2b1S Bungalow

Aerial Front

Front Patio, virtual visitor point of view

Aerial Back

Back Patio, virtual visitor point of view

Main Floor - Level 0

I did not get a screenshot of Level 1 (as shown in the previous screenshot) because all that's there is the roofing walls; there was no room for an attic (I think).

I believe that there aren't many changes made since my last posting of this house, except for added beams on both the front and back patios and any adjustments to some items that would've been affected by the changes.

Re: Single Story Bungalow
I am so devastated at the moment; my computer crashed on me yesterday without warning, and I lost a good number of the house designs I've been working on (not to mention other things I'd saved on it). The ones that I didn't lose were ones that I downloaded to MediaFire, but some of those aren't quite updated (I posted those there then made modifications, but didn't save the modifications). crying

So, it looks like some of them I'm going to have to start from scratch, and some I'll have to update, hopefully with the help of the pictures I've posted here and on Facebook as references. That'll take some time though.

Re: Single Story Bungalow
Here is another lucky design that I had saved to MediaFire before my old computer died horribly, even though it was the unfurnished version. Now that I have more memory being utilized by the program, I have been working on refurnishing it, as well as making some changes. In some cases, I've been able to download from 3D Warehouse the same furniture, sometimes something else. I haven't added any framed pictures into the rooms, which is a change from before.

NOTE: I did have saved on my old computer all the furniture that I'd downloaded from 3D Warehouse as well as all of the textures I'd found online, but with that loss I've had to rebuild my "inventory" from scratch as best I could.

So far, I've the front of the house, Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Main Bathroom, Master Bathroom and part of the Hallway furnished/changed as well as rendered (two different angles for each of the interior areas, except for the hallway). I am in the process of refurnishing the Master Bedroom, but haven't completed the textural changes yet, so no pictures of this room.

Front Aerial. I've added the privacy walls to the sides, and decorated them with hanging ivy on the sides facing the house so that anybody looking out the windows wouldn't see just a plain stucco wall. I also changed the texture of the exterior walls to something I felt was a more appealing wood siding, as well as changed the roof shingles.

And I added another tree to the middle, took out one of the benches and side table on the patio to accommodate the new door to the Dining Room, as well as removed the potted hibiscus trees. I also switched the two cabinets and their plants.

As you can see I've added some of the roof beams to the inside, although for the shorter ones I don't think I have quite the right angle on them. Also, the two chairs are different, not only the style of armchairs but also the upholstery fabric basically because I couldn't find the same ones. Also, the ceilings are no longer textured but they are still white; I was thinking of having them be wood but then that took away quite a bit of the lightness and made the room seem closed in.

I adjusted the placement of the arched doorways into both the Dining Room and the Kitchen to better accommodate the dining table and chairs.

As you can see I stuck with the 8-seat dining table set, but this one is a bit more formal (although the chairs look very much more comfortable than traditional ones); I don't know why the designer of this piece of furniture included the plates, bowls and glasses but no silverware... Once again I stuck with the same blue striped upholstery fabric that I used in the living room for one of the armchairs to help tie the two rooms together (as well as the chairs in the kitchen). You'll also notice that I've added another exterior door into the dining room from the front patio. It might be a bit much, but the idea was that it would be easier to access it from the kitchen if there's a family party or whatnot. As seen from the Front Aerial picture, there is also a screen door just like the main front door with this new door. Oh, and there's a tea set on the sideboard under the window, which was moved over to accommodate the new exterior door.

I almost forgot to mention that I changed the width/depth of the chandelier so that it wasn't so imposingly huge.

I haven't made any significant changes to the Kitchen, basically just added back the wall clock, refrigerator (which has been sized using real-life measurements for an 18-cubic feet top freezer refrigerator I found online - which meant that the cabinet above it was way too high and I adjusted its measurement), the square table, and all of the chairs.

I've actually made quite a few changes to the main bathroom, namely adding an exterior door to the back; the idea being that I was thinking that there could be a pool in the backyard (which I haven't added) and who would want wet people to track pool water all over their wood floors coming into the house... to use the bathroom... wink biggrin

In adding the exterior door (without the screen door of course), I've had to do a little bit of rearranging of the the vanity, toilet and the small window.

Another significant change made was pushing the wall and door to the hallway out so that it was even with the hall closet and linen closet wall and doors. Once I did that there was a small space that I was able to add the bench with storage, although I did shorten the shower by a couple of inches to fit it (2.5 inches to be truthful).

I almost forgot to mention that I also changed the tiles on the floor, the ceiling is no longer textured but shiny white, the towel on the rack is now a tan terry cloth, and I've added a matching floor mat.

Not that much changes to the Master Bathroom; only a few cosmetic ones. I've added the floor mats that match the towels, changed the metal fitting to a brushed nickel texture I found online, changed the pattern on the shower curtain, changed the tiles to the same ones that I used for the Main Bath, and the ceiling is no longer textured but shiny white.

I realized that I'd made the hallway way too wide, and that I needed to do something to fix that. I moved the back door (along with the screen door and porch light outside), and added a long bench with lockers along one wall. I also thought that having the glass-paned double doors to the Master Bedroom was just silly, and switched it out for the double doors without the glass.

I think I may now have an extravagant number of exterior doors to this house (three in front and two in back to which I had almost added a third back door but thought better of that). Is that too many?

And with that, it's late (2:04am here in California), and I have a full day of errands tomorrow. Good night, for now.

Re: Single Story Bungalow
I was able to use most of the furniture that I'd previously decorated the Master Bedroom with, which was quite fortunate if I might say. The textures, on the other hand, I wasn't able to find the same ones, so I've had to find replacements.

I did decide to take away the double bookcases between the two sets of double doors and replace them with a curio cabinet.

I didn't feel like having a busy Moroccan-style end table next to the fancy chaise lounge, so I found something nice yet still in keeping with the other Art Deco styling, and I figured a light would be needed near the chaise lounge so that the person enjoying a good book there can see it. The choice of a hanging lamp was so that there would still be space left on the table for a drink.

I also added a small light above the Art Deco vanity.

I almost forgot to mention that I changed out the plain cedar chest for one more in an Art Deco styling, and changed out the bedside lamps for something less clunky yet still a splash of modern styling.

I did change the type of wood used in the furnishings from the cherry to a mix of black walnut and mahogany.

****
With the rest of the house, I haven't made any changes; the Garage and the Laundry room are both as they were posted before, and I still need to refurnish the two other bedrooms.
