Photo-video rendering plug-in
This new plug-in groups together in a specific menu the old plug-ins linked to rendering.
It consists of:
- Simple photo rendering (replaces Create photo with renderer)
- Multiple photo rendering (replaces Multiple rendering)
- Video rendering
- Rendering properties (replaces Advanced settings of photo rendering)

Simple photo rendering also allows:
- display the progress in percentage
- display the elapsed time and estimated remaining time
- enhance the external brightness (at the 2 best quality levels)
- view/edit the advanced settings (at the 2 best quality levels)

Multiple photo rendering also allows:
- display the progress in percentage (at the 2 best quality levels)
- display the elapsed time
- display the name of the point of view being computed

Video rendering also allows:
- display the progress in percentage
- display the elapsed time
- enhance the external brightness (at the 2 best quality levels)

Rendering properties allows to:
- view/edit the parameters of the rendering engine

The improvements and corrections made to SH3D-5.3 have been taken into account.

The sh3p file with source code is included in the compressed folder.

Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
It's a good idea smile but it's not finished because I saw 2 problems. sad

A. I downloaded the previous Tools R1.3.2 with parameters 1.3.1 in Tools menu.
=> Yesterday, I downloaded the new menu 'Photo-video rendering' and the old menu was always present. crying

Why and how can we delete the old ?

B. Problem in parameters
When I use your new menu 'advanced settings', I cannot change value of DiffusedBounces (1 => 2) !!!
=> With the old menu it is possible. tongue

Is it a regression or just an oblivion ?
=> Can you evolve it ?

I think that with this kind of update, you must have a global vision and don't go too fast and I know that it's not easy... d oh

Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
You must manually remove the plug-ins from the Tools menu if you no longer want to use them.
Help -> About... -> Librairies...
- click on a file in Plug-ins
- close SH3D
- delete the plug-ins

These old plug-ins do not benefit from the improvements and corrections made to SH3D-5.3.
The new plug-in is included in a compressed folder to be replaced more easily in future updates.

As stated here , safeguards have been put in place to avoid any confusion in the interactions between parameters.

Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
The plug-in supports English and French but it is possible to add other languages based on the ApplicationPlugin_en.properties template.

Based on these instructions , the addition of a language can be done as follows:
1-unzip the PhotoVideoRendering-VERSION.zip file
2-transform the .sh3p into .zip
3-paste your file ApplicationPlugin_LANGUAGE.properties
4-transform the .zip into .sh3p

For any additional language integration directly to the plug-in for future versions, you can contact me .

Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
Note to translators.

You can translate the label of parameters (rendering properties) by putting your translation in parentheses and separated from the English keyword by a space.
Example:
RenderingPropertiesView.aAminLabel=antiAliasing.min (\u6700 \u5C0F \u9297 \u92F8 \u9F52):

This structure must be respected otherwise the modifications of the parameters will not be taken into account for your translated file.

Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
Some details about the video rendering.

- curved line for camera path
The curved line path is created automatically when there is a difference in orientation between 2 recorded positions.

- variable speed according to distance
The greater the distance between 2 recorded positions, the faster the movement speed.
Conversely, the shorter the distance, the slower the speed.

Practical tip to see the difference between a straight line path and a curved line path.
You can save your path in the standard video panel and then open the video plugin.
Since the positions recorded are the same, some parts of the path may be curved and the speed different depending on the distance.

At the next version! wink

Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
@Ceciliabr
Just a question: Is it possible to make the image-window wider, f.i. 600px wide? That would be really useful.

Here's how the image display is processed in the default photo panel.
this.photoComponent = new ScaledImageComponent();
this.photoComponent.setPreferredSize(new Dimension(getToolkit().getScreenSize().width <= 1024 ? 320 : 400, 400));

To add additional options, I decreased the size of the image preview and since version 1.4 the size of the panel changes depending on the look and feel chosen.

But to answer your question, yes it is possible to increase the size of the image preview.

Even better: create the possibility to specify the size of the image preview in Preferences... :-)

I will study the feasibility of the thing so as not to complicate the photo panel too much.
Besides, I hesitated to put the option of the choice of look and feel in the preferences if it was possible.

Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
Heheheh I think it would be though... Java and Swing (programming language and UI components used here) are not the best to support responsive layouts...

I hope it is possible, but I have a few ideas/options for the developer:
- What about changing the Quality bar? we have only 4 options and it is huge, fast and best are taking a lot of space in addition to 1-2-3-4.... Maybe replace 1 and 4 with fast and best and keep 2 and 3 instead of replacing the whole component?

The lookAndFeel (that I did not understand why having that option, but maybe I missed some thread) should be a non frequent option to change (it is less important than picture size or quality, so it could stay in a "secondary" frame like advanced options, why not?
So we could have a new frame with:
Look and feel - Preview Picture Size - Any other option

And, this is completely IMHO, I would put the elapsed time bar under the "Advanced settings / Enhance Brightness" line, just to separate what will change the resulting image and require a stop-create (over that line) and what is modifying in live the UI and the components shown (below the progress bar), like lookandfeel.

Take this as some ideas from a developer that uses SH3D sometimes, and used a lot when planning a new home, so if you think is a stupid idea, feel free to tell it! biggrin biggrin

The goal of the plug-in is to stay visually close to the standard photo panel while providing new options.
Personally, I occasionally use quality level 1 (3D view without shadow) and one of the higher quality levels (3 or 4) with the setting of SunFlow rendering engine.

The lookAndFeel (that I did not understand why having that option, but maybe I missed some thread) should be a non frequent option to change (it is less important than picture size or quality, so it could stay in a "secondary" frame like advanced options, why not?

This option is not related to the rendering but I have integrated it in the photo panel in order to modify the appearance of the interface.
The other solution is to use a script for the installer version as shown here with "-Dswing.defaultlaf=".
Available Look and Feels:
javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel
javax.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel
com.sun.java.swing.plaf.motif.MotifLookAndFeel
com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsLookAndFeel
com.sun.java.swing.plaf.windows.WindowsClassicLookAndFeel

I would put the elapsed time bar under the "Advanced settings / Enhance Brightness" line, just to separate what will change the resulting image and require a stop-create (over that line) and what is modifying in live the UI and the components shown (below the progress bar)

This may be possible (see previous central image).

Resizable is king!

Now the next, ( and probably impossible) challenge is: Can the resizable photo renderer include a 3D preview? It would really "revolutionise" this program to have a combined preview- and render-window.

Congratulations, very nice. Thanks. The settings explanation in configureSunflowRenderingEngine.pdf from thread,6122 is quite necessary for me to grasp the advanced settings. If you consider updating it, do not hesitate to spell out in some more detail what the different settings mean. Even if I could find out for myself, some of the options slow down the rendering process quite a bit - and then it can be hard to find out when a setting is worth the trouble. But that is a detail, very nice work.

In the public version of the plug-in, the selectable dark level option has been removed in favor of code integration. This allows to have a simple and practical interface.
By default, the dark level 2 is chosen but it is possible to have the dark level 0 (at night hours) by selecting diffusedBounces = 0.

If you still want the selectable dark level option, I can make this beta test version of the plug-in resizable.

Hi bdfd,

Are you sure you are using the right version of the plug-in?
It is displayed in the menu and the panels.

Regarding your problem of rendering stuck at 99%, reproduces it
- without the enhencement of the external brightness?
- with a width of 640 pixels for example?
- with the standard photo panel of Sweet Home 3D?

It may happen that the rendering engine "crashes" on a particular object that requires a lot of computation.

The estimated remaining time is based on the percentage of progression and the elapsed time.

Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
I do not know if this is the general case but I prefer to display the extensions of files whose type is known.
For example, the Sweet Home 3D types recognized by the operating system are sh3p (plugins), sh3f (furniture) and sh3l (languages). The sh3t type (textures) is not recognized as a Sweet Home 3D type.

By clicking Help -> About... -> Libraries... , you can only see the list of plug-ins recognized by Sweet Homme 3D even though many more are installed.

As Emmanuel Puybaret suggests, it can be useful to do a little cleaning by removing all plug-ins starting with PhotoVideoRendering or PVR especially if you have installed test versions.

Follow this method for installing the plug-in:
  • Download the latest version
  • Open the PhotoVideoRendering-xxx.zip compressed folder
  • Double-click on the PhotoVideoRendering.sh3p file
    (If you use the portable version of SH3D, put the .sh3p file in the data/plugins folder)

    Sweet Home 3D then displays:
  • either a first installation message

  • or a replacement message

    click on Replace

    Hoping that it will be useful to everyone!

    It does indeed. Quite amazing. Congratulations and thanks, enkonyito! Without yet having had much time to experiment, it seems to me that the new light types can give softer illumination with fewer light sources, and that rendering (therefore?) will be faster. Looking forward to testing further even if I suspect I shall have to rely on examples and intructions to make full use of your work.

    Forgive me for asking a couple of what probably may be silly questions/wishes:

    • does the renderer rely on the description field to determine the type?
      description#1=PointLight type
      description#2=TriangleMeshLight type

    • Would adding a planIcon# simplify placement of the different lights in the 2D view?
    • Could also having a TriangleMeshLight with other colours be useful?
      Something closer to incandecent (lightSourceColor#2=#BB9854) maybe?
    ok

    Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    @okh

    it seems to me that the new light types can give softer illumination with fewer light sources
    This is especially true for light panels (TriangleMeshLight type) as shown in the Sunflow doc (page 54).
    I also found it in my renderings to simulate the interior natural light.

    does the renderer rely on the description field to determine the type?
    Yes, the PhotoRenderer class uses the description of the light object to differentiate types.
    String lightDescription = light.getDescription();
    // SphereLight type
    if (lightDescription == null
    || lightDescription.contains("SphereLight")) {
    ...
    }
    // PointLight type
    else if (lightDescription.contains("PointLight")) {
    ...
    }
    // TriangleMeshLight type
    else if (lightDescription.contains("TriangleMeshLight")) {
    ...
    }
    We can then assign a type to a light we want to create.
    The TriangleMeshLight type is special because the coordinates of the vertices are statically encoded so the shape is limited to a single-sided panel.
    As it is rotating, nothing prevents to use it for an existing object.
    (Light panel #1: opaque when off, Light panel #2: invisible when off, Light panel #3: visible when selected and not viewable in rendering).

    Would adding a planIcon# simplify placement of the different lights in the 2D view?
    For those I created, given their depths, it was not really necessary but if you want to add a type to the description of your lights it could be useful.

    Could also having a TriangleMeshLight with other colours be useful?
    Something closer to incandecent (lightSourceColor#2=#BB9854) maybe?
    The default color is daylight (lightSourceColor#2=#6D7991) but since the PhotoRenderer class retrieves the color of the object to use as a light source color, you can change it.
    int lightColor = lightSource.getColor();
    HomeMaterial[] lightMaterial = light.getModelMaterials();
    if (light.getColor() != null) {
    lightColor = light.getColor();
    } else if (lightMaterial != null && lightMaterial.length == 1
    && lightMaterial[0].getColor() != null) {
    lightColor = lightMaterial[0].getColor();
    }

    Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    Thanks for this. Did experiment some more, and - as you say - the light panels (TriangleMeshLight type) are especially useful for creating softer illumination. And very useful it is, as I cannot be bothered with lots of lightsources around the room to get the perfect render. With the TriangleMeshLight it is easy to shape and adjust with one or two lamps. Made one with incandescent colour, icon and planIcon. While it is true, that a planIcon does not show when the model is kept at zero depth, SH3D will let you resize also the depth, and voilà, the planIcon is visible showing the direction of the light. For now this does the trick for me. I might make a fireglow-ish one at some point (lots of fireplaces and candles here) and possibly experiment some with angles.

    Thanks again - very very useful set of tools.

    I found a solution for my opaque windows with your objects and PVR 1.5. applause applause applause

    In this first picture, light panels (in front of window) are at 0% : we see external flowers.

    In this second picture, we have opacity and light with :
    at left of the door, the light panel is at 5%,
    at right of the door: a light panel is at 50%.
    => We don't see external objects, just light.

    Hi enkonyito.
    Hopefully you will be able to help me. I am struggling to use the no.3 light source with 1.5 plug in.
    If i rotate it on x axis 90 degrees i get this :-

    Good illumination but bad appearance

    If i rotate it on x axis 270 degrees i get this :-

    No illumination but good appearance

    And if i use the icon from the tool bar

    very good illumination but poor appearance

    and i have no idea what is illuminating the outer frame of the garage door.

    The other thing i have noticed is that if you resize or rotate the sources they appear normal in the plan, but, if you then copy / paste them they appear vertical again.
    If you'll pardon the pun, i hope you can shed some light on my issues, I am sure i am missing something.

    Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    Hi Mike,

    For the next version of the plug-in, there will be an update of the light source libraries with more explicit names.

    Regarding the light panels, one side emits light and they do not work with the standard photo panel. The other side is invisible.
    - 90 degree rotation on the X axis: emitting face up
    - 270 degrees rotation on the X axis: emitting face down
    For the non-opaque light panel, the diagonal of the emitting face serves as a reference.

    and i have no idea what is illuminating the outer frame of the garage door.
    The simplest is that you send me your file.

    The other thing i do not know what they're doing, but if they're going to be back to normal, but if they're going to be vertical again.
    I did not encounter that kind of problem.

    biggrin   Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    Today I rendered 16 times to test the difference between the different items in "Advanced settings>Quality 4>samplerAlgorithm" option.

    I found that "bucket" rendering is the best quality and takes up the least amount of GPU. "Fast" rendering is the fastest quality consuming GPU.

    If you want GPU to take up a little more, I think there is only one way. Render with a fast rendered quadruple resolution. Then use software to reduce the screen size by 4 times.

    Original image, not rendered

    "bucket"-1000X500 Rendering time, 40 minutes

    "fast"-4000X2000 Reduce size 1000X500 Rendering time, 26 minutes

    The difference is only in the processing of light and shadow. Square rendering is more natural. But the rendering time for fast rendering is 40% less.

    So I recommend
    1.adding one in the option, 4x supersampling for fast rendering.
    2.And render with smaller squares.
    3.Support for rendering pauses.
    4.And automatically save the file.
    5.Allow rendering of 16000X8000 resolution

    Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    Another important thing to forget is to add a "pause" button after the rendering starts.
    The rendering time is very long and uses 100% CPU. If you encounter individual things at this time, you can't do it.

    This way each room could be controlled individually, on, off and brightness.

    It would be possible as here but it imposes some constraints.
    Given the size of rooms modification panel, the slider would not be very readable.
    The addition of such a feature is possible in a derived version but will require an update to each new version of Sweet Home 3D.
    The plug-in will have to be compatible with these 2 versions (standard and derived).

    The easiest way is to make an official request for the ceiling lights power feature to be integrated into the standard version of SH3D.
    The plug-in will be able to retrieve this information and manage the ambient lighting panels.

    It's probably not a big operation, since it used to behave like a normal window in earlier versions.

    It's probably not a big operation, since it used to behave like a normal window in earlier versions.

    The standard photo panel, like the resizable photo panel, does not prevent other windows from appearing above it.

    Since the first version of the plug-in, if you try to open another photo panel, the one that is already open is put in front.
    if (currentPhotoPanel == null) {
    new AdvancedPhotoPanel(...);
    } else {
    SwingUtilities.getWindowAncestor(currentPhotoPanel).toFront();
    }

    Since I only use one screen, I did not notice any particular problem.
    If you use 2 or more screens, what behavior do you get by displaying the resizable photo panel (full screen or not) in a window other than the plan and trying to open another photo panel?

    Cecilia,

    In view of your video, this is a regression on Mac OS X. However, there has been no change in the behavior of the photo panel.
    The only difference with previous versions is the compatibility of v1.6 with SH3D-6.0.
    Do you have the same problem with the standard photo panel?

    For now, I think of 2 solutions:
    1- use the default behavior of the standard photo panel
    2- force the resizable photo panel to not always be on top

    Has anyone noticed this bug on Linux?

    Thank you for the new (version of the) plug-in and the JAR. I'm trying them out, but have some problems.

    The JAR runs without problems under Windows 10 64-bits, but when I try to make a render I run into memory problems. The JAR runs in 32-bit mode and allows only 0.2 GB of memory, that's not enough to do any serious work. Can you increase the memory allowance, or offer a version that allows the standard installation?

    You can run the JAR file with a script using java options like increasing the memory.
    java -Xmx2g -jar path/to/SH3D-6.2_derived.jar

    Can you increase the memory allowance, or offer a version that allows the standard installation?
    Maintaining a derived version requires a lot more work than a plug-ing because you have to create a new one with every standard Sweet Home 3D update. What I do not plan to do...
    I released the version derived from SH3D-6.2 to show the possibilities of the modifications made to the program.

    @MichaelN
    Is there any Help for the Rendering Plugin?
    This tutorial explains how the plug-in works for rendering properties.
    With PVR-1.7, "default" global illumination is replaced by "Ambient Occlusion" and "path" by "Path Tracing".

    And it's common, that it needs several hours for 1600x Pixel?
    It depends on your scene (number of lights, activated ceiling lights, shininess of objects, enhancement of external brightness) and rendering settings (number of antialiasing, type of global illumination, type of sampler algorithm).

    Examples:
    - comparative global illumination
    - additional Sunflow options
    - independent ceiling lights

    Perfect!

    After some testing, I have found that a buffer size of 48 is marginally faster than 64 and 32.
    Is it automatically detecting the number of threads available?

    Quite oddly, it seems that choosing different bucket orders has an impact on the rendering time.
    This is rendered with column.

    Hilbert : 39 s
    Spiral : 39 s
    Row : 38 s
    Column : 35 s
    Diagonal : 35 s
    Random: 48 s

    I didn't try the reverse options – but I must admit I was somewhat curious about the reverse random...

    I noticed no difference with the threads.lowPriority activated.

    The project file is meant as an illustration of the rather hot inner core of the earth (intended for the education of my daughters),
    and I wanted it to spin, so I tried making a video.
    It seems the video will not render in Q4, but stops about half way.

    I'm including the project file, in case anyone wants to give it a try ( 1280 x 536 )

    @Ceciliabr

    Is it automatically detecting the number of threads available?
    Yes, the number of threads by default is the number of available processors (CPU) that will be the maximum value because I noticed a bug by opening your file on my computer which has only 4 cores.

    Quite oddly, it seems that choosing different bucket orders has an impact on the rendering time.
    I think it depends on the scene.
    With yours where the subject is central and the background black, the order has an influence especially on the calculation of the remaining time.

    I didn't try the reverse options – but I must admit I was somewhat curious about the reverse random...
    The "reverse random" bucket order will be removed.

    I noticed no difference with the threads.lowPriority activated.
    This is what I also found but I do not do any action in the plan or the 3D view during a rendering.

    It seems the video will not render in Q4, but stops about half way.
    Version 1.7 of the plug-in uses only the default values of the new options.
    I will test with different video format because the lighting significantly increases the duration of the rendering.

    PVR-1.8_betaTest2, in companion with Additional Sunflow options (v1,2), works like a charm, and the combination is surely a blessing for everyone concerned with advanced rendering.
    Myself, I would rather that the semi-transparent part of an uncompleted rendering could be completely transparent, but it works perfectly well like it i is!

    In my opinion, PVR-1.8_betaTest2 is a release candidate (if it hasn't already been released without my knowledge)

    @Ceciliabr

    I have tested, and tested, and tested again, and again, and I have found nothing wrong.
    Regarding the problem of video rendering, everything works correctly?
    On my side it's random for a new simple project: a single object and a linear or circular camera path.

    Myself, I would rather that the semi-transparent part of an uncompleted rendering could be completely transparent, but it works perfectly well like it i is!
    It is possible but I did not propose it because we do not see the size of the image.

    In my opinion, PVR-1.8_betaTest2 is a release candidate (if it hasn't already been released without my knowledge)
    If everything is good on your side, I think that version 1.8 will soon be published.
    The next big innovation will be the addition of the YafaRay rendering engine when its beta phase is over.

    No, but that's not a biggie.

    Regarding the transparency, that's not a biggie either, but it could be an option?
    Is it really important to see the size of the image?
    It's only when using Spiral that you're not able to visually imagine the size of the finished rendering.

    Looking forward to that.

    I think so because it is scaled to be visible in the photo panel regardless of its resolution.

    I do not intend to abandon Sunflow but I prefer to leave the choice of the rendering engine to the end user as in this old plug-in by adding YafaRay. This will imply a change of the interface by favoring the display of advanced settings.

    Thank you Xiste! Nice to see you like this plug-in.

    I started working on its new interface for adding the rendering engine selector.
    There will no longer be the ambient lighting slider or the display of the estimated remaining time that is not very reliable.
    The Enhance external brightness checkbox will be renamed Enable sky lighting.
    The Advanced settings button would access the properties of the selected rendering engine.

    Who says two rendering engines, says twice as many parameters to assimilate and surely to detail.

    Difficult to answer in detail without more information.
    Enhanced external brightness takes a lot of time with a sky texture, a great image resolution, at night. The global illumination used also has an influence.
    I advise you to perform a test without it being enabled to see the rendering time and have a comparison.

    Please don't ditch this. It's not entirely reliable, but it's in fact fairly close to accurate under the right circumstanses.

    I hope that Emmanuel Puybaret will take into account my request concerning an xml example file using light panels, opaque light spheres and caustic photons because the documentation of YafaRay does not detail it which complicates their implementation.

    Keeping the display of the estimated remaining time, it will surely be necessary to modify the size of the photo panel so that it is not too large on a standard screen.

    Do really mean that IBL is possible with SW3D.
    As far as I know, for IBL usage and renderings, the sky-picture should be a hdri (32bit).
    But such hdri´s are not useable in SW3D, right?

    So, how is this IBL been done, is it really based on the sky pictures pixels?

    Hi Sabine,

    Even if Sweet Home 3D does not support HDRI format, it is possible to make an IBL rendering with the SunFlow or YafaRay engine.
    Choose a good quality sky texture and possibly hemispherical.
    Use the latest version of the plug-in by checking Enable sky lighting.
    For a true IBL rendering, it is preferable to have a time when the sun is no longer visible.

    This type of rendering takes longer and the effect depends on your image. (see posts by Cecilia or my tests)

    V2.0 works fine on my Macbook Pro from 2019 running Catalina, but it does not work on any of my older macs running High Serra. I have to use the older (5.1) Macs because of the PCI slots, and High Sierra is the last version that is compatible with the 2012 Macs.
    ( I use PCI slots for my fiber network cards and for the Red Rocket cards, and I can't afford to change my entire render farm right now, since I'm building a new ( and expensive) studio.) :)

    So I'm back on v1.9 ( until 2.0 maybe sometime in the future will be compatible with High Sierra).

    Removing java is really not removing Java, so you still get the same message.
    Either Java behaves like some kind of virus that can't be removed, or it leaves a script that prevents installing of older versions.

    What bugs me tho, is that v6.3 should ask for an older version of Java, when v6.0 runs perfectly with the latest version of Java.

    I have now tried all 3 versions with SH3D 6.0 6.1.2 and 6.3.
    The only way I can render with yafaray is with PVR 1.9.

    The logistic problem here is that there's no way of telling what version of yafaray is actually loaded, since it's only possible to replace the current version with the new,
    and I have no way to verify that the replacement has actually taken place, and that no remnants from the other versions are left in some hidden cache or settings file.
    This makes it impossible to get qualified results.

    I'm really most happy with PVR 1.9 and SH3D 6.0. It's a stable combination for OSX 10.13.6.

    Whichever version I load of the yafaray renderer, the libraries only says yafaray 1.3 beta. This beta version is not among my downloaded files, so I have no idea where it has come from.

    Hi Atefth,

    The rendering engines currently available (SunFlow and YafaRay) do not allow GPU rendering.

    This sounds silly, but after an hour of trying I cannot see any advanced photo or video rendering options.
    I have downloaded and installed "PhotoVideoRendering2.0a.zip" and also tried "YafaryRendering 1.3.2" but in both cases the window that opens for photos shows just the space for the photo and the 'width' and 'quality' lines and the buttons to 'create' and 'close'. There is no options to enter the time etc.
    For the photovideorendering plugin there are only 3 options in the plugin drop-down (Simple photo rendering (v2.0a),grayed out multiple.. and Video rendering (v2.0a))
    I am using version 6.4.2
    I am a bit at a loss as to what to do. Thanks!

    SunFlow or YafaRay rendering engines can only be used at quality level 3 and 4 (best) where the date, time and lens are visible.

    The PhotoVideoRendering plug-in also adds to the simple photo panel: the selection of the rendering engine, its advanced settings and the activation of sky lighting.
    This is where you have to make the settings that also take effect in the multiple photo panel (stored points of view) or the video panel.

    Hi Enko,

    I wonder if you could give us a short explanation about how the different settings behave:

    Direct lighting
    Ambient occlusion
    Path tracing
    Photon mapping
    SPPM

    I like that you have now increased the sample setting from max 16 to max 100.

    The SPPM setting is very useful, as you can stop it when it has reached an acceptable quality.

    Thank you!

    Hi Cecilia,

    I wonder if you could give us a short explanation about how the different settings behave:

    Direct lighting
    Ambient occlusion
    Path tracing
    Photon mapping
    SPPM

    As the YafaRay web site is inaccessible, their team have made their docs available here.

    What I can say about the settings I've implemented:
    Direct lighting (direct light, hard shadow, equivalent to SunFlow diffusedBounces=0)
    Ambient occlusion (direct light, less dark shadow with brightness dependent on time of day)
    Path tracing (indirect light, editable number of bounces, caustics visible from 3 bounces)
    Photon mapping (indirect light, predefined number of bounces, predefined number of photons)
    SPPM (indirect light, predefined number of bounces, predefined number of photons, editable number of passes)

    I like that you have now increased the sample setting from max 16 to max 100.

    The number of samples per pixel for YafaRay ranges from 1 (min) to 1024 (max).

    Correspondence with SunFlow:
    antiAliasing 0 = 1 sample per pixel
    antiAliasing 1 = 4 samples per pixel
    antiAliasing 2 = 16 samples per pixel
    antiAliasing 3 = 64 samples per pixel
    antiAliasing 4 = 256 samples per pixel
    antiAliasing 5 = 1024 samples per pixel

    When the YafaRay documentation will be updated on their new web site, it may be possible to properly implement caustic photons.

    I only need the "Multiple Photo Rendering" function.

    This How to share images and files post pinned to the forum gallery will be helpful to you.
    Then post a screenshot of the Create photo / YafaRay panel with a finished rendering.
    Do the same with the Simple photo rendering (v2.1) panel and the properties panel of the selected rendering engine.

    The standard or advanced configuration I'm talking about is done internally as for the management of the default rendering engine.
    Some parameters are accessible in the rendering properties. I have indicated here the antialiasing correspondence between SunFlow and YafaRay.

    Depending on your hardware (number of processor cores, memory allocated to SH3D), I advise you to perform tests in order to find your customization of the parameters.
    The 3D scene also plays a lot on the rendering time (number of lighting, shininess of objects, detail of objects).

    I installed the 2.3 version of the plugin plus the 1.4.4 version of YafaRay. After the image is completed rendering, the save menu doesn't allow me to save the new image. It's almost as if there is a permission issue - I can only see certain directories and when I try to save to them it doesn't save. I doubt this matters, but I tried with all 4 quality settings and get the same result.

    The dialog box also does not look the same as if I were to use the native functionality.

    The dialog box and the folders where you can save are different because of the security options imposed by Apple in recent macOS versions to sandboxed applications coming from the Mac App Store.
    You must save the generated image in the Data folder or a sub folder proposed by the dialog box. It's the only way I found out to make it work when a user tries to save a file from a plug-in, but you can move the images afterwards if you want.

    As the YafaRay rendering engine has been added to the source code of the program and it will surely be integrated into the next version of Sweet Home 3D for photo or video rendering with a selector to choose between SunFlow and it, there will be no other public versions of this plugin to avoid confusion in the minds of users.
    However, when I have more availability, a plug-in allowing to manage the properties of the 2 rendering engines would be possible.

    EnkoNyito, I’m not sure what you want to do or what problem you encountered. Can you explain how you got the error you reported?

    Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    In version 2.4.1, the com.eteks.sweethome3d.plugin.yafarayrendering package containing the YafarayRenderer.java file is used to load the necessary DLLs.

    In Sweet Home 3D 7.0, the YafarayRenderer.java file (subclass of AbstractPhotoRenderer) is contained in the com.eteks.sweethome3d.j3d package.

    By not including the com.eteks.sweethome3d.plugin.yafarayrendering package in the plug-in and by using the new loading of the DLLs of the file YafarayRenderer.java of SH3D-7.0, we have the error above.

    By opening the default photo panel first, the error returned is:
    java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: Native Library C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Temp\com.eteks.sweethome3d.SweetHome3D-cache-yafaray-64-43014161-1659389236\libwinpthread-1.dll already loaded in another classloader

    Is it better to use the DLLs present in lib/yafaray of SweetHome3D-7.0 or in com/eteks/swethome3d/plugin/yafarayrendering/lib of the YafarayRendering-1.4.5 plugin?

    It would be better to reuse the DLLs available in Sweet Home 3D in your plug-in, but then you'll get the error you reported. As removing these DLLs from your plug-in will prevent it to work with older versions of Sweet Home 3D, I think it's better to keep them with your plug-in for the moment.

    Indeed, it is more practical to keep the YafarayRendering-1.4.5 plug-in dlls otherwise it would have been necessary to create a version derived from SweetHome3D-7.0.
    A question that has nothing to do. How to modify the luminosity of the sky (color or texture) as it is already the case for the ground with Java3D (3D view)?

    Enko,

    Thank you for this fantastic update.

    To test, I made 3 renders of the same file (see below).
    From left to right: Sunflow, Java, Yafaray.
    I notice strange "light bars" in the Yafaray render.

    Is there an explanation, or is it a bug? (original file )

    Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    @hansmex, @Vinci68,
    The "light bars" observed with the YafaRay rendering engine are due to the light panels created when the Add ceiling lights option is checked, so this is normal.
    For information, the dlls used are those of the YafarayRendering-1.4.5 plug-in.

    I just noticed the bug with SunFlow because these same light panels are no longer taken into account since compatibility with SH3D-7.0.
    If this is not easily correctable and given that the option is not optimal according to the shape of the ceilings, the default behavior of SweetHome3D can be restored.

    @bdfd,
    This error message replaces the red cross of a default rendering. It appears when the memory allocated to SH3D is not sufficient to render an object which may have a certain complexity.

    Bonjour enkonyito.

    J'ai installé la nouvelle version du plug-in PhotoVideoRendering-2.6 et elle fonctionne bien.

    Mais par contre sur mes fichiers précédents avec lesquels j'utilisais la version précédente 2.5.1 et les panneaux lumineux de la précédente OtherLighTypes library, ceux ci ne sont plus pris en compte.

    Exemple ci dessous réalisée avec les anciens panneaux lumineux et la version 2.5.1

    Et celle ci réalisée toujours avec les anciens panneaux lumineux mais avec la version 2.6 :

    Il me faut donc, si je souhaite refaire des images dans mes anciens fichiers, soit remplacer tous les anciens panneaux lumineux par des nouveaux panneaux, soit réaliser ces images en ré installant provisoirement la version 2.5.1 .

    Peut être n'ai je pas compris quelque chose.

    Merci en tout cas pour tout le travail que vous faites et bonne journée.

    Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    captaincook, let me answer in English.

    Version 2.6 of the plug-in, takes into account these 2 updates of Sweet Home 3D 7.2:

    • Fixed textures transparency in YafaRay rendering
    • Managed user-defined properties defined in com.eteks.sweethome3d.additionalFurnitureProperties System property

    For the new lights library, the lightSourceDescription property is used for variable lights (daylight or automatic) instead of the Description field.
    With version 2.5.1 of the plug-in, the risk was that these variable lights would no longer be taken into account if the user changed the Description field.

    Non-variable lights from the old library can be used with version 2.6 of the plug-in.

    Since version 2.5 of the plug-in, the lights library uses the lightSourceMaterialName property.

    Bonjour enkonyito et merci pour votre réponse.

    J'ai donc continué à utiliser la nouvelle version 2.6.
    Et j'ai fait différents essais sur un même point de vue avec à chaque image la même date et la même heure ainsi que des panneaux lumineux intérieurs et extérieurs aux mêmes emplacements.

    J'ai essayé les 3 types de panneaux non visualisables (automatique, lumière du jour et permanent) avec les 2 possibilités de création d'images ("Rendu photo simple (2.6)" dans l'onglet "Rendu photo-vidéo" et "Créer une photo" dans l'onglet "Vue 3D".
    Les réglages d'intensité lumineuse des panneaux sont identiques dans les 6 images suivantes.

    Il y a quelques différences dans les images obtenues.

    Bonne journée à vous.

    I always used the plug-in menu. I used the 3D View only for fine adjustments for the positions.
    I have positioned the visitor in a door. In 3D View I could look into the room but the photo was complete black. I discovered that when the nose of the visitor icon is within the room and the coordinates are within the wall the 3D View will not be black but the photo. I need to move the visitor into the room (mostly 3 or 4 mouse wheel ticks) to have a not black photo. To check the correct position I started a low pixel (320 x 180) rendering.
    I have the 3D view always in a separate window occuping the full screen so starting from 3D View will be a little bit easier.

    I also save the camera positions. My work flow is to store all camera positions using the low pixel rendering and do the full pixel rendering afterwards. Since the rendering takes up to an hour and I will not let the laptop run over night it is easier to start the next day from the menu. You should keep the plug in menu entry.

    The "Create photos at points of view" panel allows you to automatically create photos from previously stored points of view with the date, time and the chosen rendering engine.
    So you need to set these settings in the "Create photo" panel first before storing the desired points of view.

    Since Sweet Home 3D 7.0, light panels are available in the LightShapes library by Emmanuel Puybaret (Invisible light panel) and the OtherLightTypes-1.5 library by myself (Unviewable panel - permanent).
    These can be used with Sweet Home 3D's default photo panel and photo plug-in.

    @Karoly

    If you want to keep the old light panels (not using the lightSourceMaterialName# property) from your previous projects, you must use a compatible version of the plug-in, i.e. before PhotoVideoRendering-2.5 .
    Even though it works with Sweet Home 3D 7.2, you won't benefit from the latest fixes or improvements.

    Enkonyito, it's great you could adapt your plug-in to the way light panels are handled in version 7.0. But I wonder if it would have been possible to keep backward compatibility with the first light panels you created, because I fear that the issues reported by the Dmitriy_the_Wombat and Karoly may happen to more users. Emmanuel, I had started working on simplifying the public version of the plug-in so that its use was close to the software while keeping the most useful additional options.

    As the next version will no longer manage my variable lights (automatic and daylight) because they are too complex, it would be possible to ensure backward compatibility with other old light panels.

    I could then publish a beta version in case the next version of Sweet Home 3D makes changes in the photo-video rendering unless this is not planned.

    As SourceForge fixed the issue on attachments, I allowed myself to release a version 2.8 of the plug-in for all systems on April 18, 2024. It's accessible with the following link:

    Hello,

    I'm missing the German translation. SH3D is version 7.3. The button and the check box are in English.
    The dialogs are also in English.

    Additionally the check box is active and disabled. In previous versions it is inactive and enabled.

    The German properties file is in the archive.
    Also changing the language forth and back does not change it.

    I'm missing the German translation. SH3D is version 7.3. The button and the check box are in English.
    The dialogs are also in English.
    This is a regression due to careless copy/paste.
    File to replace in the archive to take full account of the German translation.

    Additionally the check box is active and disabled. In previous versions it is inactive and enabled.
    This is the normal behavior of this new version which is intended to be most similar to that of Sweet Home 3D.
    By default, sky lighting is implicitly enabled and non-editable in aerial view while it is disabled in virtual visit.

    If this is too disturbing, I created a small plug-in to reproduce the properties of the aerial view camera in that of the virtual visitor.

    Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    Bonjour enkonyito.

    Une petite question.
    J'ai installé la version PhotoVideoRendering-2.8-windows-x64.zip sur mon PC qui avait avant la version 2.7.
    Et j'ai remarqué que l'éclairage du ciel était activé par défaut sans possibilité apparemment de le désactiver.

    Est ce normal ?

    Merci et encore bravo pour toute votre implication pour Sweet Home.

    Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    From the message of Enkonyito posted just before yours, sky lighting is implicitly enabled and non-editable in aerial view while it is disabled in virtual visit. So you should use Virtual visit mode to unselect this checkbox.

    For your information, Enkonyito requested to disable his account on this forum and at SourceForge.net. This probably means that we won't see him contributing to Sweet Home 3D anymore! sad

    I'm very sorry to hear that we lost such a valued and appreciated member. There must have been more than just his frustration with sourceforge because Emmanuel offered to host his plugins if sourceforge continued to give problems. I have offered him the same.

    Merci pour votre message, Emmanuel.
    J'aurais dû mieux lire ce qu'avait écrit enkonyito.

    Et je suis aussi vraiment désolé d'apprendre son départ de ce forum.
    Il a tellement apporté à nous tous.

    Re: Photo-video rendering plug-in
    Sorry for the doubt, but in OtherLightTypes version 1.5 what is the real difference between "automatic", "daylight" and "permanent". In rendering tests I didn't notice a difference.
