Changing the look & feel to Nimbus
To change the look & feel to Nimbus (vectorial), add this parameter to the java commandline:

-Dswing.defaultlaf=javax.swing.plaf.nimbus.NimbusLookAndFeel

This L&F gives better results for me under GNU/Linux.
