Great Tool - IKEA Models
Hi

just wanted to thank you for this great tool. Well done!

Are there any models of "IKEA" furniture? What would be great, since about 98% of german ppl (including me) could design their interior then 1:1 ;-)

Is it planned to deliver packages for main linux-distributions (ubuntu/debian etc) Or are there licensing issues?

Keep up the good work,

Sebastian.

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
If I had some photos to refer to, I might be able to come up with a few models. It would take a long time though since I am a beginner at making 3d models. You can see some of my contributions on SH3D's 3d models page. (Right click on an item and view the properties, it should tell you who made the model.)

You can learn to make the furniture too. Have you heard of "Art Of Illusion"? ( http://www.artofillusion.org/ ) That is the program I use.

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
Now that I have a catalog of IKEA furniture, I can make some models based on that. I don't have a lot of time at the moment but I plan to get around to it.

There's no licensing issues, and I read around the Internet that some people are about to prepare and deliver such packages.
At this time, I'd prefer not to deliver them through SourceForge.net, otherwise releasing a new version of Sweet Home 3D is going to take too much time...

Great !
Does anybody know if creating the 3D model of an IKEA model may cause some copyrights problems ?

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
I'm not too sure about that but if I look at the model and then go by my very imperfect memory, I'm sure that it won't be so exact as to cause problems. There should be enough differences.

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
If we don't want to have copyrights problems, making furniture a little different and using different names is probably the best thing to do. ;-)
Nevertheless, after a look at http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?tags=IKEA , it's strange that it doesn't seem to bother Sketchup contributors !

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
They probably would have a problem with it if they were to get into making 3d models of their furniture, but as far as I know, they're not into that, at least not yet.

Making the furniture a little different as well as using different names is just what I have in mind. ;-)

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
I have made quite a few IKEA models.
I would be glad to upload them so anyone can use them.
Please explain me how to do so, or give me an e-mail address (Puybaret?) so you can publish them.

Hans, I received the models you sent me by email and thank you for your contribution. smile
It's the first time I see someone using Sweet Home 3D as a modeler!

Could you please post the models you created in 3D Models Contributions Tracking System too?

Thank you

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models

From the contact I had with Ikea recently, please do not use "Ikea" brand name and their furniture name in 3D model files, and do not create 3D models that look exactly as Ikea ones.

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
I think Ikea would be happy to see this action. What better than free publicity within this program? I advice: keep the dimensions exact, and also give it its original name.
Who knows: when ikea gets a chapter of its own, SweetHome might get a big sponsor?

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
Sorry digitalis, please read the mails I exchanged with Martin Goldberg, Project Manager at Ikea Sweden.
They have their own tool and are not interested by Sweet Home 3D. They also don't want us to use Ikea name and their products name. So please, respect their decision and their copyrights.

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
Allright, understood!
I just burned all furniture produced by that certain Swedish company wink
From now on we will make our own furniture only.

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
Do you think it would be possible to mine data from ikea home planner? I think it would be legal to tell people to download the planner, run some tool and so generate data file for sweet home 3d.

Btw. I am new to SH3D so I don't know what kind of data files are used in this tool. Is it described somewhere?

Thank you,

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
Tomaso, please don't play this dangerous game: this way of doing is the best way to kill free software because their authors like me can't afford to be involved in legal proceedings with copyrights owners.
What you suggest is not data mining, it's reverse engineering and Ikea license is really clear about this:
[...]
You may not:
[...]
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, amend, modify, develop, translate, attempt to access any source code of software or create any derivative works (except as explicitly permitted above) from the Tool - or any material included therein;
- use any part of the Tool or any material included therein separated from the remainder of the Tool, either on a stand alone-basis or in conjunction with any software or data not forming part of the Tool;
[...]

Sweet Home 3D supports OBJ, 3DS and LWS format, as stated in furniture import wizard and help.

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
Hello,

I found this web site while looking for 3D Ikea models, there are 950 models available, and the quality is great !
http://www.polantis.com/IKEA

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
Thanks Elodie for mentioning Polantis, except that downloading their models requires to be registered (but this is a minor problem), and these models are not colored at all in the formats supported by Sweet Home 3D (OBJ, 3DS, SKP transformed to DAE). sad

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
Hello,

I want to design my new office in Sweet Home 3D.

The plan was easy, now I want to where I put my desk.
I want to buy the furniture at IKEA, so I wanted to know, if there's anything from the IKEA Galant series for the planner.

Please give me note.

Thanks.

Best Regards.

Lukas

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
Hi,

I sell a pack of 3d models for sweethome3d based on IKEA furniture, you can find it here: http://3deshop.blogscopia.com/180-ikea-models-for-sweethome3d/

But the IKEA Galant series is not in the pack, I'm sorry sad

When I have free time I do free models for sweethome3d too, you can find them here: http://resources.blogscopia.com, and sometimes I do models requested by users of my site. If do you tell me the specific table you need I can do it and publish on the site, not for tomorrow but whitin a few days ;)

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
You may also find your desk in the 3D warehouse. But Galant comes in many flavours.

See the Import 3D models page (bottom) for how to convert to SH3D (and Forum).

ok

Re: Great Tool - IKEA Models
Hello there, greeting after 10 years :D You may not believe but this old thread is the top search on Google when someone is looking for Ikea furniture for sweethome3d. So... anybody, any updates since 2014?

I see this is still available:

https://3deshop.blogscopia.com/180-ikea-models-for-sweethome3d/

but it's from 2012 so I don't know how relevant it is to the current Ikea offer.
