3D view distortion
Hello,

When trying to make walls, the 3D view is following like expected.
But when moving around in 3D other lines and triangles from the corners of the 3D view are put on screen. Sometimes they cover completely the design.

Other problem is when using a texture for the walls. Then I have from the upper left corner triangles all over the design, making it impossible to view something.

I hope that my description is clear about the problem. This site is not giving me the possibility to upload a printscreen.

I downloaded the last version 1.5.1 and I'm running it under Windows XP.
--> Sweet Home 3D Version 1.5.1 Java version 1.6.0_11

I've readed the FAQ about the 3D rendering errors. I've no errors popping up and the computer is normally running the latest graphic drivers.

Re: 3D view distortion
I've found that my graphic card drivers where not the latest available, so I upgraded them.

The problem went away if I do not use the textures for the walls. If I use only colors, 3D is working well.
But when using textures, the problem reappeared : from the left upper corner triagles are painted.
So it must be a graphic card driver problem, but because my card is rather an old one (matrox millennium G400), I don't think that new drivers will be made.

So I'm stucked on this one.

From a similar question of the FAQ http://www.sweethome3d.eu/faq.html#errorIn3DRenderingSystem , you should try the version that works with Java 3D 1.3 available at http://www.sweethome3d.eu/SweetHome3D-Java3D1.3.jnlp

I don't know if will fix your problem, but I'll be pleased to know.

Re: 3D view distortion
Switching to the earlier version worked for me. As a very new user of SH3D - and a very satisfied one - this was the one thing that had me puzzled and wondering what I'd done wrong. Before I'd got as far as adding texture to walls I started finding these grey and white triangles stretching from corner to corner within or across rooms. They're two-dimensional, so if you view from directly along their plane they vanish or shrink to an extremely thin line. Conversely, if they cross your line of sight everything behind is blanked out.

I'm using Mac Intel, OS X 10.4.11 with the most recent compatible Java, 1.4.

Re: 3D view distortion
Curiouser and curiouser! After finding that switching to the earlier version solved the problem of the interfering triangles I accidentally reopened my plan in the new version, 1.5.1. The triangles have gone from there as well.

Re: 3D view distortion
I think you don't have the same problem as eric_vb.
The strange triangles you got may have been the parts of a ceiling that are not computed correctly because the walls around it don't have the same regular height. Please read help about rooms to get more information about how ceiling height is computed.

Re: 3D view distortion
Thanks for the suggestion: since I seem to have lost the problem I can't check it, but it's a good part of the learning curve. I've only been using SH3D for a day and a half and I'm already totally sold on it.

Re: 3D view distortion
I can confirm this.
I opened an older home made in the previous version of SH3D and used the "Create Room" tool and gave the rooms a floor texture but I did not chose a ceiling color nor a texture. When I viewed the home and rotated it in the bird's eye view, those strange triangles were there. They also showed up in the "Virtual Visit" mode.

Sorry, Emmanuel, that I didn't think to test SH3D in this way when beta testing for you. :(

I have an NVidia GeForce FX 5200 card on my SuSE Linux 10.0 with the correct driver (from NVidia themselves) for 3D acceleration and my system has Java 1.5 (I do have Java 1.6 but the system does not recognize it's there because it was installed in a different location by the Java installer - to use it, I would have to use the "export library path" command).
