I must be doing something wrong. I thought you go to import furniture, and drop it in the import wizard. Sounds like you're saying something different. Where is texture preview and texture dialog?I just tried and didn't have any problem.
Under Mac OS X, the fastest way is to drag the image in the page you mentioned and drop it on the desktop, then drag the created file on the desktop and drop it in the texture preview available in the texture dialog.
