For items in your plan (lower left pane), you can change names at will (also several at the same time). Select item(s) and change name. As for the catalogue(s) - upper left pane, the easiest is usually to switch between the two different display options (Preferences, Furniture catalog view): categories / search.

You can also use the Furniture Library Editor to change properties to installed libraries/collections. Typically this is used for personal furniture collections.
