Assuming I understand, it sounds like an interesting idea using SH3D as background for a requirements analysis project. The forum, blog and sourceforge should provide quite a lot of information, not least in terms of the variety of uses and users.

Your best shot may be sharing your thoughts in the process and ask questions. Maybe a survey? Maybe test a couple of theories in the forum?
