You are right, there are quite a few posts about this. Using a high baseboard as 'wainscoting' may be the easiest way. Not too fond of using thin boxes, because they are always in the way when adjusting the wall or adding fixtures. For completeness of the thread, there is a third way: using a texture the height of the wall.
