I have the same problem :
SweetHome3D-6.0 under Ubuntu 18.04, extracted the tar into my .eteks/ directory and opened a terminal. I then ran :-

cd .eteks/SweetHome3D-6.0
./SweetHome3D

NO errromessages appeared
on dekstop the startup image is shown :

Sweet Home 3D

Distribuited under GNU...

remains fixed on desktop but the program doesn't start
