What I meant to say was that I installed Java and the program still did not work. This was prior to reinstalling as 32-bit.

Sweet Home 3D is working again, and as best I can tell, the solution was to uninstall the program and reinstall the 32-bit version. I had previously been running the 64-bit version (for the last 12 months or so) because I assumed that was the appropriate version to match my 64-bit Windows ...
