I have the same problem on Fedora 12. The solution is the same - hide 3d navigation arrows via preferences dialog.

I hide 3d navigation arrows (Preferences dialog) and after that hiding 3d panel and furniture panel goes without any problems. When I select to show the 3d navigation arrows, program crashes again. So, I can solve the problem that way, but I think this is a kind of a bug ...
