i could confirm that the long term issue with AMD graphic card seems to be fixed :-) (tested with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and Radeon HD 4850)

i never tested SW3D with 64bit Ubuntu, but there are already some comments about AMD driver problems. Have a look at:

The problem is the proprietary driver (i assume you have a ATI/AMD/Radeon graphic card). As far as i know even the free driver which comes with Ubuntu supports basic 3D support.

thank you for the hints but doesn't help. In my previous post i just described the outcome of all my tests. I did already tests and did the following (Ubuntu 10.10 with proprietary Radeon FGLRX driver):

- Starting SH3D ok
- Expanding one furniture category SH3D crashes
- Starting SH3D ...

i could confirm problem with Ubuntu 10.10 and SH3D.
I guess it the same problem as in:

SH3D crashes after Ubuntu 11.04 update

Sweet home 3D crashed on ubuntu 10.10

First i thought it is related to OpenJDK, therefore i replaced it by Sun JRE but neither this nor Java WebStart solved ...
