Unfortunately I use that space below the stairs for storage room to put cleaning stuff (broom, mop, etc).
Anyway I already think to put bookcase in the family room, like this:

Btw, my house stair is not like in the design, it's actually like the grand stair, but when I use the grand stair, it does not cut the ceiling above level floor, so I use this simple stair instead.
