Yes, Dorin's version 2 is what would be legal. The square must be clear at the top and bottom of each flight. Obviously the gaps in the railings would need to be filled.
Version 1 is unnecessarily large.

Hmmm. Had it happen again just now. Deleting all the cookies for the sweethome3d.com domain fixed it for me. Try that if it happens again in the future.

<t>@dorin flatlaf is a Java look and feel that is nicer than for example the default metal look and feel. Just google "flatlaf" and switch to images and you'll see the effect. My system uses a gtk look and feel, so it already looks okay-ish for me anyway.<br/>
