Print the Grid/Scale?

Any way to include the grid (as seen in overhead view) as the 'floor' in the print?

Taking a screenshot works - but not the best solution.

thanks

Re: Print the Grid/Scale?

OR... could I create a floor texture that using a tile image that was composed of 4 squares (different colors)? How would I size the tile to fill exactly 1 square foot - so the 4 colored squares would represesent 6"x 6" ??

Re: Print the Grid/Scale?

OOPs - this can easily be done using Modify Room > Floor, and importing an image. I used an 100px square with (4 colored 50px areas) and set it to equal 12" x 12".

Emmanuel - your program is great, and the documentation is good - sorry for asking a dumb question;-(. But, I would suggest including an image/example for the purpose of printing a grid floor that can represent the scale.

thanks

There's no dumb question, and in the facts, I didn't see the interest of your proposal until I read your last post. ;-)

I created the texture images you mentioned by capturing a part of the grid in the 2D plan, and put them on Sweet Home 3D web server:
- the image for meter/centimer unit is at http://www.sweethome3d.eu/textures/meterGrid.png
- the image for foot/inch unit is at http://www.sweethome3d.eu/textures/footGrid.png

Re: Print the Grid/Scale?

Thanks. BTW - I'm still looking for a way to show a floor/grid with the 2D plan (when printed as PDF).
Is there a way to do that... ?

Re: Print the Grid/Scale?

Create a floor with the texture in Puybaret's link.
In "Preferences" select Room Rendering in plan->Floor colour or texture.
Print as PDF.

Re: Print the Grid/Scale?

thanks, it is a good trick . Something to do at the end of design. I created one large room over the whokle plan, set the texture as you said, and it does print a grid. But clicking on any rooms already on the oplan does not open those rooms now, only the one big room.
Also it looks well weird in the plan view. The only time the grid looks perfect is at maximum zoom, ie one pixel to one pixel. Great workaround but to print the actual grid would be so nice one day

Re: Print the Grid/Scale?

You can create separate rooms. (In case you don't know) just select the "room' tool and double-click in the actual room (space between the walls). Of course, you'll have to adjust the size for each. And it's not very adjustable.

Another alternative:
Export as PDF.Or - preferably - SVG, using the free pdfCreator (you "print" out the plan as PDF/SVG)
Open in gimp/Inkscape/whatever). Add your grid there. And maybe special effects, like drop shadows, etc...
This actually used to be the preferred method for making presentation plans from CAD programs. Autocad actually 'prints' in scale; I wish SH3D would get that too ;-)

Good luck

Re: Print the Grid/Scale?

Actually, SH3D does have Print To Scale, I just checked. Sorry for the misinformation.
Now I just have to check how well it works with the PDFCreator utility (for SVG 'prints').
