I'm a new SH3D user for the past week. I'm really loving it. The software is so forgiving and stable. I love the level of precision you can get. Right before getting into it I actually bought a $19.99 competitor app for my iPad Air 3. Guess what? I haven't touched that other software. SH3D is too cool. Love the renders you can make too.
I'm modeling my small end of group townhouse to scale. I love to add details. I finished the main floor and now having fun adding furniture. I even make my first custom OBJ model - glass tabletop for the steamer trunk coffee table in my living room. I will also make a custom modern metal and glass TV stand to replicate the real life one I have.
What is your tips for level of complexity that should be in a house model? I've noticed the file size has really jumped since adding things. Is there a danger to overdoing things? I also want to model my basement and bedroom floors too. So I make them as separate projects or literally rebuild my home to mirror real life? I tend to become obsessed at 3D modeling places like my old school days messing with UnrealEd where I replicated a Photon lastertag arena scaled from blueprints. If I were to make adjoining floors can I virtually walk up and down stairs? I haven't got that far yet so wanted to ask because I go overboard. Thanks...

My computer is powerful. As I'm adding content like more furniture, The file size is increasing dramatically. Editing still works fine, but I've noticed first person viewing is getting a little jerky and photo renders taking longer. Sometimes a surface like the desk in my home level goes grey. They I move my viewing position slightly and it renders the desk correctly with the texture. No biggie since I can work around it. Probably because I have a lot of stuff on that desk: PC, monitor, keyboard, mouse, gaming pad, controller, speakers, and a chair. My wife calls all this my dollhouse LOL.

SH3D files contain the plan you drew and all the 3D models and icons of the furniture you placed in it. Therefore, it can grow to quite large files if you use many complex 3D models, but you shouldn't worry too much about it if your computer seems to be able to handle it. If you want to check the size of the largest models, display the Model size column. If you look at the examples in the tip about large buildings, you'll see that you can add many levels, and you shouldn't create a different project for each level for the moment. If performances get bad, you could make some levels unviewable afterwards.
can I virtually walk up and down stairs?
You can move forwards and backwards, up and down, but if the virtual visitor is somewhere in stairs, moving it won't follow the stairs slope. The visitor can have forward moves with a change of elevation only in videos if the elevation changes between two recorded points of view.

Thanks for the tips! Here's my scale home first floor. I will probably add custom stairs after I add the basement and bedroom floors. I will add the outside brick wall layer and porch/backyard too when I'm done.

I have made projects which eat up over 1 GB... So, as BDFD mentioned, as long as your phantasy and your computer do not give up, feel free to do what ever you like!
