Best way to do kitchen counters? + Problem with height not being uniform
As with many, if not most, kitchens, the one I need to model has a continuous L-shaped counter (that could be granite or a composite material) that covers, let's say, 3 cabinets, a dishwasher and has a sink opening somewhere in the middle.
SH3D has no "Counter Surface" object. So my first thought of assembling my cabinets, appliances and sink, and putting an L- or U-shaped counter above the lot is a no-go. So my next thought is to:
1. Assemble the objects (cabinets, dishwasher, sink assembly) all right next to each other with no gap (I used the Box object for the corner of the L and could also use it if I needed empty space between objects); 2. Edit the properties of each to make them the same height; 3. Edit the properties of each to make the top surface of each the desired (using Material > Texture > Black Granite (or whatever).
Question 1: Is this the correct/recommended way of achieving this or is there a better way (I'm new with SH3D)?
Question 2: Doing what I did, and checking and rechecking the properties, despite the fact that I set the Height of all the elements to exactly the same number (and confirmed that Elevation is 0.0 for all), they show up with somewhat different heights in the render, so I don't have a uniform counter surface as I desire. It is hard to believe that multiple models all implemented something as trivial as a height parameter incorrectly, so something else must be going on. Any ideas? The 3D render of objects that were all set to have the same height clearly do not. The 3 cabinets seem consistent, but lower than the dishwasher, oven and corner box, and higher than the sink. (I would have enclosed a screenshot but this forum software doesn't seem to support uploading of images in a straightforward way.)
