Grouping and exporting mini spots

I'm just beginning to get a little familiar with lights in Sweethome3D. My first tries in reproducing a display number with lighted led segments have failed miserably so far sad

What I'm trying to do now is to integrate a group of mini spots in new furniture. After exporting al parts including the mini spots and importing the new furniture I want all spots to be seen as a single light set with a single property for light intensity. Is this even possible? And if yes, how?

I make extensive use of the Furniture Library Editor and am very comfortable with editing obj, mtl, and the furniture library properties files. Combining multipe mini spots to have the same properties will probably require the same edits in obj and mtl as merging multiple boxes to a single object so that's no problem.

Re: Grouping and exporting mini spots

I'm not sure if this can be achieved with the old style lights, but you should be able to do it using the new light emitting surfaces.
You must be sure that all the spots share the same material, and then set this material as the light emitting one. If after exporting the grouped items you find the spots having different materials just edit them in the .obj file.

Here you can find an how-to guide to set the material file in a furniture library:

Re: Grouping and exporting mini spots

Isn't the mini spot also a new style light? I dont have a problem using one of the other new lightsources and combine it with a ring for a spot.

I already created a special ring some time ago (dodecagon shape). I thought the mini spot was the same as the result I would get combining a ring with a new light source.

I'm going to experiment with setting the material properties in the properties file. Thank you!

Re: Grouping and exporting mini spots

I managed to achieve what I wanted: a group of mini spots integrated into self created new furniture and all spots set with with a single light intensity value. It was even simpler than I imagined! Thank you Daniels118 for pointing me to the properties setting to add.

But... now I want more laughing
I'm almost sure this is (currently?) impossible so it's probably something I will have to add to my ever growing long list of wishes.

For the same furniture I want to integrate a second group of lights. Since the resulting furniture is a single object I can only add one line
lightSourceMaterialName#5=spot

I tried adding a second group with a different light material and adding a second line for the second material property in the furniture library properties file. The result was both groups didn't work. Of course I expected that since I didn't think setting two light material values would work. I would have been very pleasantly surprised if two light power values had appeared in the furniture properties window.

Emmanuel, would it be possible to move the light power setting to the Modify materials window? Just like Color and Shininess. That would make it possible to have multiple light sources with each their own power setting in a single piece of furniture.
