Re: Phantom floor (or is it roof or ceiling?) image hovers overhead
The Pan3D adds an outline option. If you look in the main application help menu there is a menu item that takes you to the documentation for Pan3D. The information is in there. I believe it is better to teach a man to fish rather than to just give him a fish, so the final steps to enlightenment are up to you.

Did not know for the plugin a help file there was. Thank you, Yoda.

Also, getting inconsistent results trying to move around in the 3D view (using Pan 3D plugin). Sometimes great, sometimes kinda impossible. And the ctrl+spacebar thing doesn't seem to work. It actually maximizes the 2D view before I can Do anything with it in the 3D view.

Moire patterns are a result of fine detail and a lack of aliasing or anisotropic filtering. You shouldn't see any of that when you render at the higher quality levels, but in the 3D preview window (and possibly also the lower quality renders that are basically the same as the 3D view) it can be visible. Just ignore it, and don't expect the 3D preview to give finished quality output.
