Menu items about importing 3D model and texture are in the Furniture (Mobilier in French) menu.

You can also drag the .obj file from the filemanager into the 2D pane. Drag&Drop works for almost everything in Sweet Home 3D, you can even drag a texture (image) in the modify furniture dialog where you select a texture. Drag it into the square where a preview of a texture appears. For object files I always use drag&drop, I haven't used the menu for that in ages.

thanks for your replies

Sorry , I was not precise enough. The .OBJ I want to import is not a furniture , it's the entire map of the an appartment

regards
François

Re: File -> import doesn't exist on my brend new installation (version 7.4)

If your .obj file is a Wavefront obj file, Sweet Home 3D considers it "furniture", no matter what the obj file contains. If your .obj file is NOT a Wavefront file you will have to convert it first.
If your file contains the whole appartment in a single (Wavefront) object file, Sweet Home 3D should still be able to import it but it will be a single object (a single piece of "furniture"). I doubt that is what you want.

When you say "Entire map of an appartment" I assume that you exported a floorplan from a CAD program. That will be of little use in Sweet Home 3D because that export created a single object, not multiple objects that you can move in Sweet Home 3D. Besides that, things like walls will not be Sweet Home 3D walls but normal objects that do not have the special properties Sweet Home 3D walls have. A CAD program will most likely export without a materials file (.mtl) so everything will have the same material ("default") which makes it quite useless.

Maybe you should explain where the source comes from and what it's export capabilities are. Then we can advise how to get the most of it in Sweet Home 3D.
