Lamps and light - Beginner's questions

Hi,
I've found so many threads with sophisticated questions and solutions.

But as a beginner, I'm stuck on a very simple question:
How do I make the lamps in the Furniture Library light up?

I've created a nice apartment, including furniture, and everything looks great.

But then I tried adding various lamps to my project and setting the light to 50% (lower right edge in the menu, labeled "Leuchtkraft" in German). I see no effect in the 3D view or after exporting to HTML5. The lamps are "off." Then I added a White Light Source, inside or above a lamp, or even "free floating", but it's just invisible in the 3D view. Still no light.

Are these light effects only available in rendered photos and videos, but not in 3D view and HTML5 ecport?
Or are these lamps just 3D models without light function, even if they have a light power setting in the menu (dont know the english name)?
Or am I missing something important?

I am using Linux Mint, if that's relevant.

Thank you very much!

Re: Lamps and light - Beginner's questions

You can only see the lights when you render a photo using the third or fourth ('Best') quality levels.

Re: Lamps and light - Beginner's questions

Thank you very much, then I can stop investigating what I am doing wrong.

So is there a chance to tweak light direction a bit in 3D view and HTML5?
Currently, light comes "from above", which makes all wooden fronts and furniture inside the rooms look very dark.
I would be happy if the source of ambient light can be changed to move it towards the North / the windows (all the rooms are to North side).

Check this post from our lighting expert GaudiGalopin3324. If needed you can also tilt the invisible hemispheres to direct light or turn them upside down to light from below.

The invisible lightspheres are in a separate library (LightShapes.sh3f ). You can find the download link on this page.
