Re: my bathroom
The Ni value is the index of refraction.
Reason you aren't seeing any lights is because the lights need something to bounce off. That's why I mentioned about not making them out of glass (That was one of my first ideas, a glass outer and a smaller solid inner) Make them as an ordinary surface, then place your light in the middle and increase the light dimensions until the light just appears on and past the surface.
with your quotes did you check to see the you always had |quote| then |/quote| ? (I can't use the brackets of course or you won't see the quote text)
I do have a consultation fee by the way!

Ah, I see said the blind man.. or woman.. No glass, I will have to change that and try again. That is just so odd, as in "real life" the glass will reflect and bend the light, but I guess that would be too resource heavy to try and calculate all that.
And yes, you should be able to see that I think I have all my quotes end quotes in the right place, all you have to do is quote me on it!
And I am almost afraid to ask what your fee would be... seeing I have made extentsive use of your computer lighting skills.... *unsure cackle and grin*
I do have some corny jokes at liberty to spend....

|quote|When you ticked "Use light angle as power knob" had you rotated the light bulbs you added to the scene? I ask because they start switched off, at zero degrees, so require some rotation to produce light, around 30-40 seems about right for candle light, adjust to taste|\quote|
There's your problem \ instead of /

When a clear glass light bulb is lit do you notice the shape because of the light being emitted or because of ambient light reflecting and refracting off the surface of the glass? Since the bulbs light rays are emitted in straight lines I would almost guess that it might be returning ambient light that allows us to see its form, if it was the filaments rays then they would bounce almost infinite-um and no light would be emitted past the glass surface, I'm only guessing here??
By the way, we tried ambient light bounces for internal lights, while testing settings for the plugin, it makes for a really, really slow and very noisy (without extremely high samples) render. Tried loads of tweaks, in the end concluded that for now, it is better without, ambient light can be simulated to an extent, by using a very large (as long as it doesn't pass through the surface of an object) low powered light.

LOL! those jokes were to pay you, I'm guessing you come cheap?
And thank you very much for figuring out my quote problem, even though I am disappointed with myself cause I should have seen that. I'm trying to do too many things at once. You know the old saying... it is better to do one thing well than many things poorly...
And I've tried rotating light bulbs, I've tried rotating the light angle knob, but whenever I checked the use light~power knob box, it won't render. It's not dark, it doesn't render at all.
I know you and Puybaret (I'm guessing? ) have probably spent alot of time on this, and I would like you to know that I do appreciate it. I can't imgine the headaches you have gotten over these lights.

Please can you post your sh3f file so can have a look and see what might be causing the problem?
Yes it was Emmanuel and myself. Emmanuel wrote the improved code while I annoyed him with ideas and lots and lots of tweaks for settings and test results as we tried to improve render speeds and overcome some problems. By the way the lights part wasn't too bad.

Re: my bathroom
Here are some results I had when experimenting with the transparent versus translucent levels between programs.
This one is transparent, and clear orange. You can see that the glass is barely visible while very little light escapes...
While this one is translucent solid material defined by Sketch up's material editor. The light coming out is stronger, but you can still barely see the flame object. I think some of the resulting "glass" look is from how a dae file assigns a solid texture as translucent, and Sunflow thinks of it as transparent. I might be wrong, but I was wondering if this makes sense?

Hi The work looks so brilliant,i noticed something. It is not about the work you did. But is that door near ur screen? That can be a distraction if you are watching something. You could consider it to keep it on the opposite wall,

Re: my bathroom
Thank you for your compliment But the room is the last (what we call in the USA) an open concept house, so there are very few walls. The wall was only there because I had to make a closet for another room, so moving the doorway is not an option, though I do agree the traffic would be a problem. I did intentionally put the theatre room at the end of the house to minimize the distractions.

Re: my bathroom
I am working on a new bathroom, but this time I'm trying out new settings for glass that another poster helped me with. I'm still trying to get frosted glass, but of course that is hard to do.. I'm getting a little closer to it with my shelf, but it's still more clear than frosted. The side pieces of the shelf is what I was trying to get frosted. My settings seemed to have gotten a more mirror finish than frosted, but I think it's not that bad for an experiment.
And this is the far away view...
And this is trying to get a whole perspective.
And there is plenty of towels.

Re: my bathroom
Chris,
These renders are absolutely stunning. I love the way you are fine-tuning the rendering of glass.
Maybe it would be an idea to start a kind of library where we share this kind of knowledge? Several of the images in The Contest made me want to know "How did they do it?" as well. It would certainly help many people to, also, get such fabulous results.
Of course I'd be glad to help in any way I can. (The sharing part, like tutorials or datbase-like thingy, not the fine-tuning, I'm too impatient for that.)
