About lights...

Hi everyone,

I'm a total newbie here...in fact, I've just started to use sh3d two days ago. I've read all the guides and tutorials, but still, I couldn't find a way to solve my problem. sad

My problem is actully simple. How do I add lights to my scene?!?!

I've installed the "basic lights," which appeared in the furniture lib just fine, and the AdvancedRendering plug-in... yet somehow, when I drag the "lights" into my picture, nothing happened. sad

Please, could anyone tell me what's missing here?

Re: About lights...

Hi MonaL,

Welcome to the Sweet Home forum!

Do you know you can also use the BasicPlusExtraLights.sh3f, which contains the Basic lights plus other coloured lights.

From what you've written, when you say dragged lights into your picture, do you mean the "Plan view", or do you mean you've tried dragging them into the "3D view"?

If you mean the plan view. After you dragged the light bulb into your scene (making sure it isn't placed inside a large sealed object) and if you have ticked "Use light angle as power knob:" did you rotate the light bulbs to turn them on?

When ticking "Use light angle as the power knob" the lights start off switched off (at zero degrees) and need turning (like you would with a dimmer switch) so if you double click the light then use the rotation control you can set how powerful you want the light to be.

Hope this helps and you have fun with Sweet Home! smile

I meant dragging them into the Plan view

and yes, did tick the box

I guess my problem lies in not knowing how to turn on the light bulbs...(hehe, silly I know)

By rotating, do you mean rotating the "light" in the "plan view"?

Ah I see! smile

If you double click (or right click and select "Modify furniture..." from the menu) a piece of furniture, light bulbs are also furniture, then you should see something like this, depending on your operating system.

The "Angle (°):" is the rotation. Start off around 20 to 30 and increase from there. smile

Forgot to say, you can also change the light size with Width, Depth and Height, the larger the light the softer the shadow, be very careful that a large light doesn't go through a piece of furniture though. If it does you will see a black or dark circle at the point of intersection. Plus shadows would become more noisy.

If that happens you can either move the light slightly or reduce its size a little.

When ticking "Use light angle as the power knob" smile

Hi being a little dumb, installed the lights, placed them in the plan view, rotated them but nothing. Where is the above option as never got this when installing the basiclights.sh3f or dragging the lights over.

Cheers

Re: About lights...

sanjoyp, please try the version 3.0 currently in Beta test here.
Almost all the features of the Advanced rendering plug-in are included in it.
