Re: How do you work the lights again?

here's 2 more renders:

(I fixed the lights as you said in this one) http://www.storm-artists.net/full/97710

One of the artists had suggested I turn the island around so here is the quick render: http://www.storm-artists.net/full/97712 I'm not sure which position I like best.

Re: How do you work the lights again?

First of all, hi everyone, new user here... wonderful balance between speed, ease of use and results... not to mention the price ;) it really is a genuine little gem.

Now for the question - tried reading through all of the relevant topics, but I still feel I have to check... it it possible to alter one of the bulb WxHxD parameters independently (thus making it, say, a cylindrical or rather egg-shaped light source instead of a sphere? (latest advanced render/bulbs installed)

Re: How do you work the lights again?

Welcome Pike.
I recently wondered the same thing as you did. As the lights used in Sweet Home 3D are SphereLight instances and that an ellipse is mathematically some kind of an elongated sphere, it shouldn't be so difficult to create an oval light instead that would match the bounding box specified by WxHxD. By the way, it would be nicer than db4tech's idea who suggested to lock proportion check box for lights, to ensure the user can only create sphere lights. wink

Re: How do you work the lights again?

yes - as it is, it seems we may change the parameters independently, but the results do not suggest we have a "3d ellipse" - I was trying to put some lights inside a tall picture frame/cabinet (under left/right frame), but I learned that I can only do it by stacking a number of very dim lights... or at least that was the only solution I found - the problem is I got 16 lights under a glass and it takes considerably longer to render.

Finally, managing oval lights isn't so easy. Therefore expect that sphere lights won't be deformable anymore from the next beta 3.0.
