saving & using modifed furniture

I can double click on a window or door & get the dimensions just right, but I don't see how to keep using these settings for there are only 2 sizes of both windows & doors in the house I'm reproducing. copy/paste doesn't seem to work...

The instructions could be right in front of me but I'm just not seeing them, I must have read the direction to "Choose Plan" 20 times, before realizing that I should left click the "Plan" menu

Re: saving & using modifed furniture

Garth,

Well, I read your post 20 times trying to understand what you mean, but I can't make head or tails of it.
1 - Where did/do you find the command Choose plan, because I definitely can't find it anywhere!

So, here are more questions:
2 - which version do you use: online, or installed?
3 - if installed: which SH3D version do you use: v2.6 or v3.0?
4 - what operating system do you use?
5 - can you share your file, so we can check if it is corrupted? (use www.mediafire.com to provide a link to it)
6 - which actions are you taking exactly trying to copy a furniture item?

- CTRL-C and CTRL-V don't work in the online version, but should work in the installed version, where you can also use Edit --> Copy and Edit --> Paste.

Re: saving & using modifed furniture

Thanks Hans,

this is a great tool
I'd been at it too long, when I posted confused
When I was learning to use SH & was trying edit walls, I kept re-reading the manual it reads choose Plan. I looked high & low on every menu & never did find a choose plan command...lol

I'm on version 2.6, how do I update?
I'm running SH on ubuntu 10.04

the double click behavior is not very good, pretty hit or miss
once I figured out how to use right click for most things, a bit better, I have to use the esc key end a wall.
could be cause I'm on a laptop

I'm wondering if there is a way to rename & save my modified doors & windows, I see when I open the attributes window, I can rename, but have no idea where they go

Re: saving & using modifed furniture

Garth,

Follow this link and look at the picture.

Window 3 is referred to as The Plan. Turns out I misunderstood you. To modify a wall or a piece of furniture, you have to select it in The Plan. So, activate The Plan window, select/highlight The Model and click Furniture --> Modify, or select/highlight The Wall and click Plan --> Modify walls to change the item you chose. A faster way is to double-click the item you want to change, which works for both furniture and walls.

If you are using a laptop and its touchpad, you may consider buying a (small) mouse to avoid too many hit-and-misses.

I recommend you read the section(s) about exporting and importing furniture to familiarize yourself with these important features. It allows you to export an adapted window and then re-import it. However, I think that once you get to know the program better, you will find that making changes is pretty fast and easy.

Re: saving & using modifed furniture

I agree, a laptop touchpad is not a good idea with SH3D, I know my laptop's touchpad can be a real hassle when clicking, I had to reduce the sensitivity of the touchpad in order to use it with SH3D.

Re: saving & using modifed furniture

I have been reading the manual
& I do see the section about importing 3d models, but I don't see a thing about exporting furniture, though there is something about exporting the entire plan

I played around some more & can copy off the furniture list next the 3d view, though I can't read the information as it is all cropped

is there a way to save items off this list or somehow get them on the upper list, so I can just make up a list of furniture & install it instead of having to install, replace with modified furniture, adjust placement.

I plugged in a usb optical mouse, checked settings, double clicking is still a crap shoot

Re: saving & using modifed furniture

Hi Garth,

If you want to export just a single piece of furniture, you just put the one piece into the plan, and click on the export plan as obj format. Unfortunately, putting an entire program to make separate pieces of each furniture piece in a plan would be very intensive for a free program such as this. smile

And I'm not understanding the rest of your problems... did you say you can not copy and paste? If you highlight a piece of furniture or wall, and crtl + C ( to copy) it doesn't work?

Re: saving & using modifed furniture

I select a thing [in this case a door who's dimensions I have adjusted & renamed] click the icon [copy] on the toolbar, [right click & highlight copy, left click it], or ctrl + C

when I go to paste it appears on top of the original [no matter where I try to select]

so my work around becomes modify one paste enough copies to complete the room & place them...

I certainly understand why a personal library of furniture isn't possible
