Axis of rotation

Hey to all of u sweeter homes!

i have been scratching my head for a long time about this...

is it possible to move the rotation axis of the whole plan?

for example, need to draw the plan at the vertical 0' and anything that is wider than say about 40' and i try to rotate the 3D view is sort of lost... i need to zoom out so i am losing the details.

in so many words, if i have a plan, can i change the location of the rotation axis?

i must say... for the price i paid for this tool... it is a real bargain! GREAT stuff!

thanks!

Re: Axis of rotation

Potter,

The plug-in Rotate Home will do exactly what you want. Read the plug-in manual (PDF) to learn more.

Re: Axis of rotation

Hey Hans,

i followed the link to sourceforge and downloaded and installed the plugin... but unfortunately it did not work. by default the SH does not create a .\plugins directory... after creating it and putting the plugin in the directory... i quit and re-launched SH but the menu did not appear...

but i did find the trick to see my room from further... all i had to do is add an object far away on the right of the plan... this pushes away the camera and you can see all that u need and then zoom in

thanks!

Re: Axis of rotation

Potter,

You are the first person telling me that the method described to install a plug-in doesn't work. This manual, like my other manuals, was checked by myself, and double-checked by Puybaret, and should describe the proper procedure for any operating system. Please try again, paying minute attention to every step in the procedure.

If it doesn't work, please give us more info about your computer, operating system, error message, etc.

Re: Axis of rotation

Hey Hans,

here is from the .pdf on how to install plugins...

B - How to install a plug-in
1 - Windows
To install a SH3P file in the plug-in folder, simply double-click the file.

Hum... ok I dowsloaded the RotateHomePlugin.zip gile, double clicked on it and extracted the files.

The documentation does not tell you where the extracted files should go...

So a little more reading tells me How to uninstall plugins... so i found the location of the plugin folder...

then i proceed to where it whould go but there is no plugins folder. the documentation does not tell me to create one.

So i create the plugins folder... and i move the extracted files there...

still the documentation does not tell me to go deeper in the extracted files to find the RotateHomePlugin.sh3s file and move it under the plugins directory...

so yeah... well... the documentation does not tell me much... i had to try different things and i finally made it work.

i like my solution better though... add objects to your plan at least 20' away from the walls, make take object so little that it will be almost invisible and then when you rotate the plan... you see the exterior wall correctly... otherwise the application takes the furthest wall and makes you see the interior like if you had your nose stuck to the wall which does not give u a good perspective.

i still love SH3D!

Re: Axis of rotation

Potter,

I'll re-read the manual and correct the info. I'm using Ubuntu, so have a hard time checking Windows and Mac procedures, and relying on other for that part. Anyhow, I'm sorry if the manual isn't complete.

Re: Axis of rotation

Hi Potter,

It is the extracted file, that you needed to double click, then it will create and place itself in the correct location. smile

Hans, maybe the pdf could say something like...
Extract the plugin file from the compressed zip folder, then double click the extracted file and it will be automatically installed.

Hope this helps,

David

Re: Axis of rotation

Potter, db4tech,

This mistake was caused because the RotateHome plug-in is the only one that's zipped: all others are SH3P files. I made a note in my text, so that when version 1.3 of the manual comes out, this error will be corrected.

@Emmanuel: Maybe you can replace the ZIP file on Sourceforge with an unzipped version? That would solve the problem as well.

Re: Axis of rotation

Hey db4

i do not want to drag this thread past its purpose... but no it does not act as you describe it.

Once you double click on the .zip file it does not extracts the files to the proper directory. also the plugins directory is not created de facto once you install SW3D on XP. i had to create it manually.

at any rate... Hans has updated the documentation, i am happy with SW and i am sure 1000s more are just as much!

let's close this thread... we got better things to do... like what? work with SW3D! Wonderful tool!

thanks!
