Library Editor - alignment and snap

I am working with kitchen elements and doors - I turn my elements into Door and Window - not movable. I make a temporary wall with the dimension of my base cabinets, standard depth mm 565. My Tall and base cabinets are elevated to mm 116 . Now my tall and base cabinets will snap into the wall and I can easily place them next to each other with the pop-up ruler. I can group them. Then my doors are movable, give the the right elevation mm 168 and the doors now snap on the the temporary wall and I can adjust them very precisely using the pop-up ruler. I can group the doors. Then - I do the same with the wall cabinets which already have the right elevation - make a temporary wall mm 330 and the cabinets snap into the wall and I can place the doors which have the right elevation in place. I delete the temporary wall - Group and move into the place on my floor plan.

However: in the furniture modification wizard you can choose either movable or door and window! In the Library editor if you mark the door and window but you can not change it again. If you unmark it, it will still be there!!! So the Library editor is not working as well as the Modification wizard!

(Also it would be nice the have the Item ID field in the library editor visible in the in the work list in the lower left corner and also the creator field, which could be an item price field. These 2 field could be turned on/off so you could print an invoice list!)

Re: Library Editor - alignment and snap

Poul,

This is an ingenious way to align kitchen cabinets, even though your explanation is a bit hard to follow (I had to re-read it several times).
The only problem is that it requires users to (re-)design a series of kitchen cabinets without doors/fronts and a series of cabinet doors/fronts.

Maybe you can share the series of cabinets and doors/fronts you designed for your personal use?

If the Library Editor isn't functioning properly, maybe you can file a bug ?

Your question about pricing has been asked and answered before.

Sorry I don't think I'll change the behavior of Movable check box, even if your tip is interesting. Let's keep it simple: a door isn't movable!

Re: Library Editor - alignment and snap

A kitchen door is a "box" 595x700x16 mm with different colors, mat/glossy, textures (wood) and not a house door or door into a room!

Building standard cabinets allow you to show what is hidden behind the doors - carousels, pull out fittings, drawer systems. So you can take photos of your kitchen with or without doors - and in different door styles.

Thanks Hans - I got inspired by your "how to place a sink in a kitchen counter top" - using a wall, an invisible box and rotate in OBJ import - it works and is not difficult if you know what you are doing.

I think the library editor needs a "work-over update kind of thing".
