LED-lighting
Hello all! Is it possible to create a soft even LED-lighting on the cellar? I want to construct a living room with that stuff, but can't find a "led-strip" in the furniture catalog or elsewhere in the internet. The "fluorescent strip/light" donsn't give a soft even light, instead it gives a strong "spotlight" in the centre of the lamp. To make my idea more clear there is the project and the output picture attached. I'm new to that quite interesting program, so don't judge too bad P.S. and sorry for my bad english =)

Re: LED-lighting
Andrey,
After some testing I have found a better way to have indirect light in a room. The idea is more or less the same as yours, but I placed the lights above the false ceiling, so that you can't see them from the room. It's not perfect, but maybe you can experiment a bit more to get better results.

Re: LED-lighting
Hans,
Thanks for the idea. I'll try some variations. But is there some easier (or more direct) way to create LED-strip lighting or soft even fluorescent lighting? =) Or is it impossible in the current version of SH ?

Re: LED-lighting
Andrey,
The current light bulbs are "proportion fixed", meaning they are always perfect spheres. The old light bulbs, however, could be stretched in any dimension. I think you can download them from this link. I tried using these old lights, but didn't get perfect results either: the light is concentrated in the centre of the elongated light bulb, because light is defined as originating from one central point. But, you may want to experiment for yourself.
You can distinguish the old lights from the new lights: the new lights have as part of their name the words "created by eTeks". If these aren't the correct lights, try searching for BasicPlusExtraLights.sh3f, ExtraLights.sh3f or somethingLights.sh3f.
In general: - Small lights give sharp shadows, large lights give soft shadows, so you may want to try very large lights. - Light doesn't bounce or reflect as it would in real life; this speeds up rendering a lot, but the drawback is that light doesn't disperse as well as in real life. I think there is a way to set this reflection value higher by changing the source code of SH3D, but I couldn't find that message. - I tried replacing the light bulbs in my example with a VERY long fluorescent strip, but the light is concentrated in the centre of the strip, regardless how long you make it.

Re: LED-lighting
Hans,
- I tried replacing the light bulbs in my example with a VERY long fluorescent strip, but the light is concentrated in the centre of the strip, regardless how long you make it.
that's the problem I was talking about.
But thank's for the explanation, I think I've got the main concept of a light source always being a sphere. Now I've managed to get the almost desired effect of the LED-strip: I've placed several small light-sources every 30 centimeters (10 lights for the 3m wall), and the result is quite soft lighting (see the picture). The rendering speed has gone several times slower, as You have said also, but it is worth waiting =)
But now there is another problem =) The "LED-light" is quite bright but the reflection of my "LED-strip" in the ceiling (reflective top-box in my case) isn't as strong as expected. In the real life the ceiling-reflection of that LED-strip would give some soft light to the walls and to the floor, not much but still enough to see the interior of the room. With SH I get almost a full darkness in the room. Could anithing be done to get more realistic results without adding some light in the middle of the room?
P.S. on the "picture-1" I've used "LED-strip" only and got a dark room.
on picture-2 there is a light added in the centre of the room and the result is almost a real lighting, IMHO, exept these lighting-artifacts on the ceiling and the bed coming from the central source (a really strange circle of pointed light on the bed...).
I've also added the test-project, so you could take a look at the settings of the room (maybe I've made some mistake with the settings somewhere...) the LED-lighting project

Re: LED-lighting
oops... Hans, You DID write about the inaccurate reflection, I missed it somehow. Now I've got it, thanks. So it isn't possible to change the value without changing the source code... it's a pity =(((

LED-lightning is a very interesting problem. I want to use it in my projects but it very hard to made realistik renderig with a few very small light bulbs placed in one line((

Re: LED-lighting
Just wondering here, as I didn't tested this myself, so it may look totally different of what you want, but what if you put one or more standard lights inside a rectangular opaque box with a strip of little holes in one of its sides?
