"gray block" problem when dropping in furnature .....
Hello,
This is the same problem I had last year ... still have not solved it. I am on a new project and want to see if I can figure it out this time.
I am working on putting a roof on a house ... well actually we are framing the house I designed, now onto the workshop.
Walls, no problem but the roof .... hmmmmm.
I made the roof as a separate file, exported it and then imported it as furniture.
My problem is when I view my model, there is a large gray block at the end of the roof. I had the same problem when I did a triangle window last time. I am guessing this is because the program recognizes the sloping roof as a block shape.
I tried to use the "copy furniture" feature but I could not load the application. I am using windows 7 and when I download and double click on the app, I get an error. I made a new directory called "plugins", dropped the app in there, double clicked and still an error.
I can post the file if it helps for someone to look at it and tell me what I am doing wrong.

Why didn't you read my answer to the same question you asked two days ago?

I should add the gray block is only at one end. If I copy and paste a this item then rotate it 180, the block is at the other end. It is only visible from "one side". In other words, if I have the same item, side by side and rotate one 180 degrees, I can see a gray block at the end of one roof section when looking at the house from the front and then when rotated so that I am looking at the back, I see the other roof section with a gray block on it.

Installed 4.0 ..... still the same problem.
I must be missing something.
I made a wall. Gave it shingles on one side and a color on the other.
I exported it as an obj file.
I went into my house file.
I imported the roof ( wall section ) as furniture.
Even at this point when you get to the screen that asked you to orient the part I can already see the slanted wall section and a gray block at the end of it!
I finish importing it. If I look at it from one end, I see a gray rectangular box at then end of the wall. If the wall section was "flat" you may not ever notice it but because mine is at an angle, it starts at one corner of the wall and goes to the other with the wall a diagonal from corner to corner.
One interesting point, when I rotate the model the block is only visible for 180 deg of the rotation ... then it disappears, only to re-appear when I get to the next 180 deg mark!
What am I doing wrong?
It is an odd thing to describe so if anyone wants my file to see what I am taking about please let me know and I can e-mail it to them.

The CopyAsNewFurniture plugin, like a few other ones, can't work with Java Web Start for security reasons. But for you, this plugin shouldn't be necessary from version 4 and its Beta version if you select the walls used to create a roof part before choosing 3D view > Export to OBJ format. In that case, Sweet Home 3D will prompt you if you want to export only the items selected in the plan, or all home items with a ground item at elevation 0, and you have to choose the Export selection option. This won't export the block you spoke about.
Don't worry for the double post and don't forget to sleep! I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures.
