Problem with File open

Ubuntu 12.04 precise
SH3D 4.1

File open the files shown are from Home Folder clinking on any folder the correspondent files doesn’t show, the same happens on Furniture Import, Choose model.
This was with SH3D 3.4 I replace to version 4.1 the same happens.
Replace Java to version 1.6.0 still the same.

Re: Problem with File open

Probably a silly question but... are you sure you have the permissions to list the content of these other directories?

Re: Problem with File open

I just meant the filesystem permissions for your user or group. If you can open files on another folders, with a file explorer for example, then you have the permissions. May be Java has not the correct permissions then?

As a workaround you can simply copy the file to your home folder, work on it and then, if needed, copy it back to the origin folder.

Re: Problem with File open

Luis,

The problem must lie with your computer. I'm using SH3D v4.1 with Ubuntu 12.04 and it works just fine.

HOWEVER... I had to change one thing:
- uninstall IceTea Java
- install Oracle (Sun) Java.
After doing that, v4.0 and v4.1 worked fine.

There are a few small problems with version 4, but I'm not sure what is causing them.
- Every now and then when a window pops up (e.g. Modify Walls), it doesn't display fully. I have to hit ESCAPE and give the same command. Usually then it works correctly.
- A second problem is that when I have minimized the SH3D window, it doesn't restore correctly. Sometimes it pops up much smaller, sometimes half the window is blank.

@Emmanuel
- There also seems to be an old problem that is re-appearing. When entering negative values, the cursor hangs after the first decimal digit. So, -0.45 comes out as -0.54. This problem existed long ago in version two-point-something (I think). I have to check whether it is easily reproducible.

Re: Problem with File open

To hal9000
Thank you for the permission explanation.
I don’t know how to enter permission in Java can you please help me.
Thank you

hans,

My motherboard is Gygabyte GA-G41M-Combo
CPU Pentium Dual core E5400 @ 2.70GHZ
Memory 2 G
Graphicard its VGA supports 3D
I have Blender which I am learning (very difficult) I seen very high definition 3D figures with it.
Ubuntu since 9.10 been working with this computer for 2 years with no problem of motherboard
or any part of it and same with Windows Xp before.
On my opinion the problem doesn’t come from the motherboard, unless some one points what
can it be, just my opinion but it could be.
Should I fill a Bug report?
As always your feedback is appreciated.
Thank you

Luis

Re: Problem with File open

Luis,

My computer is similar to yours, several years old, running Ubuntu since 8.10, I think.

With the introduction of SH3D v4.0, several people using Ubuntu, including myself, have had problems using the program. Until now, it seems everybody was able to solve their problem with the tip I gave you: uninstall IceTea Java, and install Sun Java. Check the messages on the forum....

Re: Problem with File open

Hans,

I don’t know nothing about Java
Before installation I was told it was unnecessary to uninstall IceTea, gave a site to install version 1.7
Find installed version.

luis@luis-G41M-Combo:~$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_25"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_25-b15)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 23.25-b01, mixed mode)
luis@luis-G41M-Combo:~$
Don’t know if IceTea still in System.
After searching on the web for Sun Java found Java Runtime Environment 1.7.0.25 (32-bit) or Java JRE.
Please let me know which is the correct one for SH3D.
Thank you

Luis

Re: Problem with File open

Luis,

Use the Software Center to see if you have IceTea installed.
