Export lights and shadow along with the OBJ format
Hello guys,
I am the newbie for this Sweet Home 3D. First of all,may i know it is possible to export the 3D model with high quality photo realistic effect such as shadow and lights to OBJ format?
I have try to export it from Sweet Home 3D and re-import to 3ds max. Unfortunately it seem that the lightning and the shadow effect doesn't tag along.
Please kindly advise me how to export the lights and shadow for OBJ format?

OBJ format doesn't support lights and I don't think shadows are exported in any format. They are just computed when the scene is rendered.

Re: Export lights and shadow along with the OBJ format
Hi Emmanuel,
First of all, thanks for the prompt response. May i know is there any alternative way to include the lights?I really like the photo-realistic effect and the feel after the render the scene. But unfortunately after i export the model in OBJ format, and reopen with the software which can only support OBJ format,i have noticed it have loss the lights and photo-realistic effect, thus the scene become dull and non-attractive.

It sounds to me as if your question is really how to re-create the brilliant SH3D rendering with lights and shade in your Autodesk / 3DS MAX software(?) If so, I guess you will have a better chance of getting an answer from 3DS MAX users. ok

Thanks for your suggestion. Previously when i try to import simple design to 3DS MAX. I keep receiving an error stating that model cannot import. That the reason i posting here whether got any alternative way to export lights along the model .But oh well,as Emmanuel & Hans stated that "OBJ format doesn't support light". I think i will try to learn blender to add the lighting manually and do some texture baking before export again as OBJ format.

To open 3d models of SH3D in 3dsMax 1.Export as Obj format from SH3D 2.Then Select Import as single mesh and Import as Editable poly buttons while in importing in 3dsMax. 2.Or you can drag and drop your Obj model in 3dsMax scene/Viewport. I believe. Lights and shaders are dependent on 3D modeling program and its render engine,Models and materials are its file format dependent. [I think FBX file format support lights, camera, animation, but it works only in Autodesk and its associated products.] To render a scene like SH3D fist you need to understand the scene which consist how many lights, location of camera and other details. Then import in 3dsMax, use Environmental background image which is same as the Sky Texture used in SH3D. Add a Daylight system which have mr sun and sky. Add omni lights of 3dsMax instead of SH3D light source. Use Final Gather, caustics and GI of 3dsMax metalRay. Then Render the scene using MentalRay. More practicing will surly get the mimicked result. I cannot provide any more details about 3dsMax rendering because strictly it requires SH3D Administrator permission. If you like SH3D rendering then why wasting time by imitating it.Do the next scene to render in SH3D.
